My schedule is all catawumpus so I have no idea what I'm doing on the 2nd, but some of you might be interested in this.
Two sea music events coming up this December. First, the monthly chantey sing will be on Saturday, December 2nd, at 8pm. Free, but reservations required. To reserve space, just send an email to peter.kasin@nps.gov or call 415-561-7171. More information at
http://www.nps.gov/safr.htm The next sea music concert, and the final one for this year, will be on Friday, December 8, 8pm, and will feature Shay Black, accompanied by Myra Chaney, cello. Shay is well-known as the eldest sibling of Ireland's famed Black Family of singers, touring extensively with his sisters Mary and Frances, and with brothers Michael and Martin. What you might not know is that Shay sang with the legendary chanteyman Stan Hugill for 10 years, and had performed at sea music festivals as a member of Liverpool's chantey group Stormalong John during his years in Liverpool. Shay brings a powerful voice, sea songs of Ireland and Irish America, fine guitar accompaniment, a wealth of knowledge, and great stories about Stan Hugill.
Shay will be accompanied by the brilliant young performer Myra Chaney, on Cello. Myra is one of a growing number of musicians who are re-introducing the cello as a Celtic folk music instrument and taking it in new directions.
8pm, aboard Balclutha. Tickets: $14. SF Maritime National Park Association members, $12. To reserve tickets, please call 415-561-6662, ext 12.
Fair winds, and have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday.
