Bookspotting (x2)

2) Simplexity by Jeffrey Kluger. A book about how simple things can also be very complex, and how complex things can also be very simple - from sports, to speech, to the stock market, and a few other places in between. It's an interesting overview of the *science* of complexity, but it really left me want an "in conclusion" chapter, that talks about how certain things could be made more simple, and possibly even a few things that could stand to be a little more complex. The chapters that are there, however, make for entertaining reading. Definitely worth reading.

3) Killing Yourself to Live: 85% of a True Story by Chuck Klosterman. In around 2004, Chuck Klosterman is working for Spin Magazine, when it is suggested that he take a road trip across America, visiting the places where rock stars have died, and somehow write a story about it. He may have actually written the article, but mostly what he wrote is this book, which talks tangentially about dead rock stars, but mostly about himself, his relationship with women, his relationship with drugs and about music. If it were a rock album, it would probably be criticized for being "self-indulgent". And it is. But Klosterman is a good writer, so he manages to get away with it.

You even get used to the fact that the type is Bodoni Bold. Eventually.

Anyway, it's a travelogue, and it's a long blog entry and it's amusing and makes for good reading.
