'In writing this book, I have incurred a number of debts. I was enormously pleased, but I did not know what to say. But human nature was the same everywhere. Then behold, the gatekeeper came to Gwenhwyfar. It took part of me with it.'
Book 1 - William Marshal - Knighthood, War and Chivalry, 1147 - 1219 [so not fiction but it didn't say it had to be...and technically I used the dedication as the first sentence...but it was!] (David Crouch)
Book 2 - The Reluctant Fundamentalist (Mohsin Hamid)
Book 3 - Witches Abroad (Terry Pratchett)
Book 4 - The Mabinogion (Trans by Sioned Davies)
Book 5 - Shades of Grey (Jasper Fforde)
