Of course you know I love you,
Or what else am I here for?
Only you not face to face,
but side by side for evermore
And I need to be here with you
For without you, what am I?
Just another fool out searching
For some Heaven in the sky
Take me closer to believing
Take me forward, lead me on
Through collision and confusion
While there's life beneath the sun
You are the reason I continue
So near, for so long
So close, yet so far away
Emerson, Lake and Palmer

Experience had taught Will Turner that it was safer to remain calm at times such as this. Very calm. Jonah Sparrow’s wrath could be swift and fatal. And so Will stood silently in the wreckage of the library and watched as Jonah knelt to pick up a shard of ancient pottery from the tile floor. The piece was from a treasured wine jar, which now lay shattered amongst a pile of books and stones.

Will could feel the rage flare in Jonah. He took a quiet step backward. Jonah sprang to his feet with a snarl and hurled the pottery shard against the wall. He flung out his arms with dagger gripped in hand, threw back his head and shrieked.

“I will kill him!” Jonah screamed.

Will approached swiftly and with great care, he maneuvered the knife-wielding hand into his own careful grip and pressed a kiss to Jonah’s cheek. Will felt a deep inward growl as Jonah drew all the strength of his clairvoyance into his command. His eyes darkened; they were like twin suns blazing in a pool of darkest Hell as he looked into a world beyond Will’s vision.

“He has regrouped,” whispered Jonah. “He has been vanquished, but not killed.”

“Jonah, there will be a time when we will cross swords with Barbossa again, but it is not this day. We know that his weakness lies in a golden medallion. That gives us considerable advantage.”

The vision ended. Jonah suddenly collapsed against Will and began to tremble. Will drew him into his arms, pressed his cheek to Jonah’s and tried to shush him.

“He took from me what he had no right to take!” Jonah’s voice became tearful.

“Let my love be a source of your comfort,” Will whispered. “We will pursue Barbossa and his kind until we strike them from the face of this earth. But, Jonah, I implore you: let your heart be gladdened this day; We lost no crew members or ships and we have visitors that I, for one, am most grateful are here. Let us concentrate on being marvelous hosts to Jack and James.”

Jonah wrinkled his nose petulantly. “How can we be good hosts when our food has been stolen and our house damaged?”

“The workman will have our house back in order within a few days and I’m sure we can purchase some fare that will keep us from starving.” Will let a bit of cheer creep into his voice.

“Hmph! Since you’ve let Nailah take up with Anamaria, we have no one to cook for us. I suggest you fetch her back if you want to be fed.”

“Or perhaps I shall learn to cook for myself?” Will smiled.

“We shall be poisoned within a day! Who’s that now?”

Jonah looked around at the sound of the front door opening and voices. Tillson entered, followed by Anamaria and Nailah. Nailah’s small frame was draped in men’s clothing. The breeches had been rolled up around her ankles and a rope cinched about her tiny waist held them up. A leather tricorn adorned her head. The tail of the shirt fell to the back of her knees, but her smile melted Will’s heart as always.

Jonah rolled his eyes. “I still say she is too young to emancipate.”

Will hugged her and her soft form melted into his side. “I feel she is in good hands.”

Anamaria smiled proudly at Will’s words. “She wants to be one of us, Will.”

Jonah huffed. “Well, are you sure that is what you really want , missy? To give up a nice, warm bed and a steady wage?”

“She doesn’t want to wait on men the rest of her life!” snapped Anamaria. “Are you going to write the letter, Will?”

“Of course, I shall. You must forgive Captain Sparrow. He is vexed that he might not be fed again.”

Anamaria curled her lip at Jonah but smiled at Will. “You are a man of your word, Will, but I’m not here for Nailah‘s letter, but with a message for Cap’n Jack and Cap’n Jonah. Both o’ them are needed down at the harbor. Two ships have arrived with provisions and th’ merchants are asking for your requirements.”

Will nodded in understanding. “We shall be along, terrectly. And Nailah…”

Will pressed a gold coin into her hand. “Will you and Anamaria please go to the market before Captain Jonah dies from starvation?”

She nodded eagerly and Anamaria rolled her eyes as Nailah tugged her out the door.

Jonah turned and gazed up the stairs. “What a fine state of affairs! It is nearly eleven o ‘clock and those two are late for a breakfast I cannot provide.”

Will planted a kiss on Jonah’s cheek, found a basket in the rubble and tugged at Jonah’s hand.

“Jack will need extra rest until he recovers from his wounds. Come, let us look in the garden. Perhaps we’ll find some carrots or turnips for breakfast before we go down to the harbor.”

Jonah grimaced. “Carrots for breakfast? Do I look like a horse?”

Will wrapped his arms around Jonah’s shoulders and whispered in his ear, “No. But I muchly enjoy riding you.”

The brigand was wild. In his heart, James knew he’d never be tamed.

He was never so feral as when he was naked and astride James’ lap. He would lean forward, spilling braids and baubles over James’ chest as he took all of James’ erect shaft into his velvety softeness. Then on the upstroke, he would snarl and fling his head back with a jingle. Forward again, back again, in a rhythm that threatened James’ sanity. He was beautiful and wild in a way that was distinctly frightening to James-- despite the cloth gag James had wedged between his golden teeth to stifle his howls of pleasure.

James twisted his fists into the bed sheets and grunted with each stroke of Jack‘s golden hips. Pleadings, curses, and vows of love poured from James’s lips as his fingers stroked Jack’s erection, bringing him to closer to completion.

A shower of sparks ignited behind James’ eyes as his body arched and was shaken by spasms. Jack’s warm, pearlescent, droplets of seed showered them both. The gasps torn from Jack’s lip suddenly grew softer and James realized he was fainting.

James grasped Jack as they rolled over in the bed. Gently, James eased him down. Jack grimaced faintly as the bedclothes touched his raw back. James took the cloth from his mouth, dipped it into the water pitcher and applied it to Jack’s forehead.

“Jack, I am sorry. Clearly you were not up to this. Forgive me.”

But Jack grinned, though faintly as his breathing labored slightly. His slender fingers touched James‘ cheek. “T’was worth it, Jamie. Yer always worth it.”

James laid down beside him and stroked his forehead as Jack’s breathing evened out.

“Do you realize how happy you‘ve made me?” whispered James.

Their noses touched in the silent language of love.

James fetched soap and water, the two washed up and James laid out their clothes. Moving slowly, Jack sat up on the side of the bed and began to tug on his breeches. When James tried to help, Jack patted his hands gently.

“I can do it, luv. Been flogged before, ye know.”

“But never as bad as this. I’ve seen men die under fewer strokes.”

“T’weren’t my time, Jamie. I was turned away from the gate. Good fellow, that Anubis. Poor lad looks a fright, though.”

“You’re babbling again. Must be the laudanum. Which reminds me. You are due for another dose.”

James put a drop of laudanum in a glass of water and handed it to Jack. The pirate took the glass reluctantly and wrinkled his nose.

“I don’t fancy takin’ this.”

“It’s just half a dose. Jack, it will ease the pain.”

Jack tossed it down his throat and grinned. “There we go, then! Now I feel downright convivial. Shall we go downstairs an’ see whose ’ead me brother’s servin’ on a plate today?”

“Jack, you’re incorrigible.”

“One more thing, aye? Would ye fetch me purse from that trunk, luv?”

James opened the trunk and rambled about until he found a black cloth purse. He wrinkled his nose at the odor.

“What is this?” he asked.

“Spices, Jamie. I thought we might offer our ’osts some nice, mulled wine. Can’t mean ye don’t remember Fanny’s specialty.”

James sniffed the purse. “I remember, but this doesn’t smell like Fanny’s recipe. Well, let‘s be off downstairs.”

Arm in arm, they descended the stairs. James heard laughter through an opened door to the garden and looked out.

James smiled as he watched Will and Jonah frolic together amongst the garden plants. They laughed and flung handfuls of grass at one another. Then Will caught Jonah about the waist and with a shriek of laughter they both disappeared into the plants with a splat.

Jack wrinkled his nose. “Tis disgraceful they are! They should be off t’ their room.”

James nudged Jack’s ribs gently. “False modesty doesn’t become you, Captain Sparrow.”

At the sound of their voices, two heads popped up from among the plants. Will blushed and got to his feet. He pulled Jonah to his feet and the couple gathered up several carrots and turnips.

“Good morning!” Will grinned. “All our food was stolen in the raid, so we- ah- came out to see what might be left over for breakfast.”

James felt dirt spray over his shoulder as Jonah lobbed a carrot at Jack.

“Care for a carrot, dear brother?” asked Jonah.

“Do I look like a ’orse, Jonah?”

“No, you only smell like one.”

“We’ve sent Nailah and Anamaria off to the market, so we‘ll soon have more to eat,” explained Will making his way to the door. “And the merchant ships have arrived in port. Anamaria brought word that we need to come down and purchase what we need.”

James sighed. “We’d better go down straightaway, then, or there will be nothing left.”

In the kitchen, the roots were placed in a bucket and Will and Jonah washed up. James placed his arm around Jack and frowned a little at the fever he felt radiating from the slight body.

Jonah noticed also.

“Jack, seeing as how the laudanum has made you weary, why don’t you stay here at the house? James can complete all the necessary transactions. Will can stay here and wait on you.”

Jack considered for a moment, then nodded. “The walk is a bit far.”

James knew a week ago, he would never trust Jack alone with Will, but now he drew himself up proudly, confident in Jack’s newfound fidelity. “I quite agree, Jonah. And you, Will, can help Jack make some of Fanny‘s mulled wine.”

“Just let me fetch my purse,” replied Jonah as he headed for the stairs. “And Jack, do work on washing and peeling those roots. They might be the only thing we have to eat today.”

James smiled and kissed Jack’s forehead. “We shall be a few hours and no more.”

***

“Did you say this was Fanny’s recipe?”

Jack snapped awake at the sound of Will’s voice. Though he had hardly touched the cooling wine in his mug, Jack felt so terribly sleepy. Damn laudanum! He struggled awake and sipped at the wine.

“Yes, Fanny’s made it for us on a few occasions. T’is t’ yer likin’, then?”

Will gulped the last of his wine and ladled out some more.

“It has a very peculiar flavor. I’m sure I’ve tasted it somewhere before. Martinique, I think.”

“Mmm-hmmm.” Jack drifted again.

Jack heard a gulping sound, then the sound of more wine splashing into Will’s mug.

“It tastes a bit like--like that love potion the old lady sold in the marketplace at Trois-Ilets. Do you remember, Jack?”

“Ah, yes, th’ aphrodisiac. I bought just a bit of it t’ please ‘er. Potent stuff, that. T‘was the night we broke the bed.”

Will giggled. “And remember how Gibbs pounded on the door and told us there would be a mutiny--”

“Iffen we didn’t quiet down. Oh, aye!”

“Whatever happened to the rest of it, Jack?”

“The potion? Oh, I don’t know, luv.”

Will shifted closer to Jack. Jack looked down and was puzzled to see Will’s hand resting between his legs. Damn laudanum!

“Jack, I can tell you, whatever we did on that night, I have seen much worse things right here on Barbados in some of the taverns.”

Jack forced open his heavy eyelids and looked at Will. “Hmmm? ‘ow’s that, lad?”

“Well--”

Jack felt Will move against him on the davenport until their hipbones met.

“Jonah and I were at the Iron Dog Inn one night for a drink when we saw two men sitting in the corner.”

“By their onesies?” murmured Jack.

“Aye. The taller man just took leave of his senses. Suddenly he jumped up, grabbed his companion and just started tearing his clothes off, like this!”

Will’s hand pulled at the crotch of Jack’s breeches until the buttons popped free. Jack’s eyes widened at the feel of Will’s fingers firmly stroking his member.

“Why, that brute!” said Jack. Oh damn this laudanum to Hell!

“Then he produced his own cock and made his companion chew on it in front of everybody, like this.”

Jack was seized by the back of his neck and thrown rudely to the floor. Will’s hands, tangled in his hair guided his head. Jack felt the youth’s firm member slide between his lips. Jack freed himself for a moment.

“I’d like to see some bloke do that to me! Why, I’d knock ‘im on ‘is ear!”

Will groaned as Jack licked delicately along the length of the shaft. Is this what Will used to taste like? Ye gods, I don’t remember. Oh, damn, it’s just the laudanum. The head slid over Jack’s tongue and into his throat. After several moments, Will spoke again.

“And then, he seized his companion like this!”

Jack was pulled to his feet and tossed on his stomach across the armrest of the davenport.

“And proceeded to bugger him in front of everybody, like this!”

Jack yelped at the sudden stab of pain, then hissed as Will slid deep and paused. He dangled over the armrest as the room spun before his eyes. I must remind Jamie to purchase more of that medicine! In fact, I shall demand it.

“Naturally, Jonah was dismayed but such a vulgar display. He drew his dagger and demanded they be removed or he’d kill everyone at the inn.”

“I can see Jonah’s point of view perfectly,” replied Jack, as Will pounded him from behind and stroked Jack‘s erection rapidly with his right hand.

Will thrust hard several more times then cried out, then Jack spasmed hard into Will’s hand. Will tumbled onto the davenport and Jack, no longer pinned to the armrest, slid bonelessly to the floor.

“I don’t suppose ye ‘ave any more stories like, aye?” gasped Jack.

“I do, but not right now, Jack. I’m spent.”

James could not help but notice Jonah’s frown when he pushed open the door to the parlor and saw Will and Jack asleep on the davenport. James was relieved to find that Jack, though soundly asleep, was fully clothed.

“What’s this? Will? Wake up!”

Jonah jostled him and Will started.

“How’s this? I leave Jack in your care and you fall asleep? What if he had been taken ill?”

Will sat up and blinked as Jonah looked into the kettle.

“How much of the wine did you drink?” asked Jonah.

“I am quite ashamed to say I don’t remember.”

James lifted Jack gently into his arms. “Jonah, I’m going to take him upstairs to bed and let him sleep off this laudanum before dinner.”

“I think, perhaps, you should go, too, Will. You don‘t look well at all,” said Jonah. “Nailah and Anamaria will be here to prepare dinner in another hour.”

“I think I shall,“ Will agreed.

James mounted the stairs as Jack’s head lolled on his shoulder. Will followed behind. In their bedroom, James lay Jack gently onto the feather mattress and tugged the bedcovers over him. He bent and kissed Jack’s forehead, then exited the room and pulled the door closed.

In his heart, James felt reassured. Nothing improper happened while we were gone. Jack’s changed. I am his only love, now. He returned to the parlor and pushed open the door.

“Oh, I’m sorry, Jonah. I did not mean to interrupt.”

“Oh, that’s quite alright James. Do come in and join me.”

James smiled. Jonah was capable of radiating a little warmth and he was certainly a pleasant creature to gaze upon. Not that I’m looking thought James happily as he stepped into the room. Jonah turned towards him and smiled. In his right hand he held a ladle and in the left hand a mug.

“I was just getting ready to pour some wine.”
