Cursed Wretch 86: First thing, Punk is long dead, and I’m sure you weren’t even a cum stain in your mother’s panties when it was still alive. Emo nowadays is the offspring of emotional hardcore. Which was good.

The mainstream idiots decided to take pop punk, add cruddy sad lyrics and shout every now and then. And they called it screamo.

Good emo bands are not Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Blink 182, Thursday or FATA.

They are Circle Takes The Square, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Fear Before The March Of Flames, (older) Poison The Well and such.

Mainstream emo is pretty much what you described it as, though.

Honestly, who cares if a band is mainstream or not.
So, because they're mainstream they all of a sudden suck?
Don't think so.
People go on and on about fucking labeling shit and how it's wrong, then they go and make such a fucked comment like, mainstream sucks.
Granted,I don't like GC, Simple Plan, Blink 182, but that's not because they are fucking mainstream.
So here's a big, too bad you're wrong,I win,suck my ass.
haha, <3 you Jake.

In order for a band to become mainstream, they have to have a sound that the larger commercial labels like, and know will be profitable. These labels are afraid of change and usually wont accept any new, fresh, innovative ideas unless they have a strong gut feeling it will give them money.

Basically, mainstream is about making money, not music (though there are some exceptions). The majority of emotional rock bands are created to ride the current trendy wave until it crashes to shore in hopes of gaining popularity and money.
