What I ate in Japan

Feb 14, 2016 21:41

It's been a looong while since I last posted here. Anyways, to celebrate my "return" to the blogging world, I'll post photos of some of the food that I indulged myself in Japan. So get ready to be hungry hahaha :) Photo spam here we come~

PS. I just realized that I really don't have a lot of food pics during my trip :(
Oh well, NEXT TIME I'll make sure to document everything (yep, there will be another trip soon and I'll make sure of that)

Kakigori on the way to Ginkakuji to ease my exhaustion after an unexpected uphill biking route.

This takoyaki is really delicious!! I bought this on our last day in Namba and I instantly regretted that I didn't bother to try this even on the first day. The shop is just near Don Quixote and is always teeming with customers but because I had other priorites, I always ignored it. Sighs.

I shared my sister the takoyaki and this very red cake we bought in Takashimaya. I was super intrigued by the color and I wondered how it would taste. Super sour cake hahaha. Honestly, the sourness is too intense for me to appreciate this.

I liked it - not love but just like. It was too lemony for me and I'm not a big fan of that because it reminded me of the Maxx Lemon Candy I always eat while commuting.

We also ate in Sanuki Udon Hanamaru in Shinsaibashi and it was really good. This set meal was my cousin's but I was intrigued with the curry falvor so I tried it. It was not bad. But I don't think I can eat a whole bowl of this unlike my cousin.

This was what I ordered. And becuase we didn't ate any breakfast, I simply devoured this until nothing's left.

I made it a point to always buy cakes or puddings in the basement of Takashimaya. I will always be wowed by the sheer number of shops selling hundreds of varietys of confections in there. This one turned out to be a coffee jelly and I was not a fan of jellys so I didn't like this.

Before going to Japan, I was already dying to have a taste of Mont Blanc even scouring luxury hotels near my place to have a look but unfortunately, they already phased it out. So I made it a MISSION TO BUY MONT BLANC before any other cakes or confections. But after the first bite, I thought the taste was weird. Another bite and a third then a fourth one sealed the deal for me. I don't like it. Yep, after all those yearning, I'm not amazed by the taste. I only bought one in Japan and after returning home, I thought maybe I just didn't bought a good one. So I went to a Japanese cake shop, owned by a Japanese chef in Makati city to try another taste. And yep, I'm still not a fan of Mont Blanc.

This is one of the best meals I had in Japan and this katsudon is featured in my Himeji post. I still love it to this day and can still remember that sweet and savory taste.

We went to Kyoto and this buns are really cheap so I definitely wanted to try it.

And it turned out to be...just normal. Not amazingly good but not also bad.

After an exhausting tour of Kiyomizu-dera and waiting for my mom and aunt to finish souevnir shopping, we headed to a side street that not many tourists traversed. And we met this gem of a cafe. The owner isreally friendly and even chatted with us.

The coffee is really refreshing. The heat is not that bad but after walking for over an hour, you will really get thirsty. We were surprised that the coffee is not sweet. yes, It's not sweet at all. A bit bitter for my taste but I'm really happy that the coffee stands out than the sugary drinks of the Philippines.

My sister, cousin and I, went cycling in Kyoto and I never expected it to be that difficult (will share more on my Kyoto post). On the way to Ginkakuji, we ate first to ease our famished selves. I ordered this duck rice bowl and it's just fine. Enough to fill one's hunger.

Before leaving for our flight, I bought this really rich Yakisoba. It was delicious but as I improved my diet over the next months, I quite cringing now that I managed to empty this whole plate before. Hahaha.

Of course, I would never leave without trying Starbuck's Green Tea Latte. It was fine, but I wanted a more pronounced Greem Tea flavor. Like that ice cream I ate in Nara which surprised me initially. I should have bought more green tea products. Oh well, I will definitely return before the end of 2016 hahaha.

Never thought this cake would survive the 4 hour trip from Japan, haha. But I still wanted to try one more cake and this is it.

And it turned out to be... GOOD! It's creamy and light and not that sweet which I'm really happy to taste.

There are still a lot of food I ate that I forgot to take a picture of. Like that delicious pudding which the customs people made me finish before boarding the flight, hahaha. Or that unsavory first taste of takoyaki in Fushimi Inari. Or that calamares in Takashimaya. Or that not so good onigiri of 7-11.

But I'm still not done tasting Japan. This is just the beginning. More trips will definitely follow. I'm writing this mantra to solidify my goal this year and remind myself to take courage and return to Japan against all odds.

food, japan
