On Monday, we received a bunch of trees from the
Arbor Day Foundation to plant. If you want to plant some trees at your house, I seriously recommend getting them from the Arbor Day Foundation. They'll be smaller than what you can buy from the store, but they are cheap, cheap, cheap. I bought 6 trees for less that $60 (I became a member so got discounted prices, which paid for itself first order). I also got two free
forsythia and a red maple (which I am giving away). In addition to trees, they have several bushes and shrubs they sell.
Trees came, which of course meant I had to make MacBeth jokes about how they were invading our porch. The
red crape myrtle I got is tiny. Like ridiculously tiny. I was expecting a tree twig like the rest, maybe 1-1.5 feet tall. Nope. I got something that about 3-4 inches tall. Even if I hadn't planned on putting mulch around it, I would have had to to keep from running it over with the lawn mower.
The other issue is that one of my
hazelnut trees didn't come. I ordered three and go two. These things are the largest of the trees/shrubs that came so I definitely notice how one is missing. It's too late in the year for them to send another in time for them me to get it in the ground. I'm going to email Arbor Day to see what we can do. I plan on ordering some more shrubs in the spring (I am serious getting rid of the awful, generic landscaping put in as quickly as I can). Maybe I can get my third hazelnut then.
I am so happy to actually be putting plants in. I cannot wait until spring. Mostly because that's when I'll find out if anything survived. ^^;
