A ficmix for Demyx and Yuffie Kisaragi of Kingdom Hearts. If ever you need a file or an individual song or something uploaded, give me a good kick and comment saying what you need! :)
(Yes, that last song is supposed to be exceedingly corny. Trust me on this.)
He has come to learn that girls are things he’s never meant to question or fully understand: the Dancers adore him, Larxene hates him, Naminé listens to him. It is only when the Great Ninja Yuffie smiles and waves at him (in his street clothes, arms full of milk bottles) that he starts asking why.
Let Me Talk to You/My Love ~ Justin Timberlake
If I wrote you a symphony / Just to say how much you mean to me (What would you do?) / If I told you you were beautiful / Would you date me on the regular (Tell me, would you?) / Well, baby, I've been around the world / But I ain't seen myself another girl (Like you) / This ring here represents my heart / But there's just one thing I need from you (Say "I do")
It’s exceedingly annoying, really. The Black Coat following her around every night. And while on patrol, too!
…It is kind of flattering, in a really creepy way. It’s a shame. He’s cute, and their fights are fun. He’s better at it than he gives himself credit for.
Again & Again ~ The Bird and the Bee
Say my name, say my name / Say my stupid name / It's stupid how we always seem to do it again, oh oh / You're so stupid and perfect / And stupid and perfect / I hate you, I want you / I hate you, I hate you / Oh oh, again, again, again
Yuffie was annoyed. She was soaked to the skin and had been tossed around by those pink Nobodies six times already (What sort of wussie Nobody was pink, anyway?). She stood up, her hair clinging to her face and clothes heavy with water. “Alright, time out.”
She tossed her head, flinging her hair out of her eyes. He was gripping his guitar-thing, grinning sheepishly. “Uh, ‘kay.”
“You keep coming to find me, and I kind of have to fight you off. You haven’t killed me, and you run away before I get close to killing you. This isn’t going anywhere. Tell me what you’re playing at, now.”
His fingers drummed on the neck of his instrument. “I like you. I think.”
Yuffie sighed. Now she was even more annoyed. “You weren’t supposed to say it like that.”
He blinked. “I wasn’t?”
“No. You were supposed to corner me and be all mysterious and say something dramatic like, ‘you will be mine’ or - you know.”
“Oh. I’m sorry,” he said, scratching the back of his head. “That sounds kinda creepy, actually.”
“Well, yeah, but you’re a bad guy! You’ve been following me around and fighting me!” She threw her arms up in frustration. “It’s not rocket-”
“Do you wanna… go for a walk or something?”
She shrugged. “Sure.”
crushcrushcrush ~ Paramore
I've got a lot to say to you / Yeah, I've got a lot to say / I noticed your eyes are always glued to me / Keeping them here and it makes no sense at all
Aeris paused while watering the geranium by the open window. “Has anyone else noticed Yuffie’s been more giddy than usual lately?”
“Like hell she has.” Cid turned in his seat. “Bouncing around on my new security system.”
“Hmm,” Aeris nodded. Across the street, Yuffie jumped from one roof to the other, a cloud of blue jays trailing her. “The singing is new.”
Merlin sipped his tea at his table. “Well, this world is at least half Disney.”
The woman turned. “Pardon, Merlin?”
“Hmm? Oh, never mind me, Miss Aeris. Just old wizard talk.”
True Love’s Kiss ~ Amy Adams and James Marsden
So to spend a life of endless bliss / Just find who you love through true love's kiss / You're the fairest maid I've ever met / You were made to finish your duet / And in years to come we'll reminisce
“I kinda wanna meet this Merlin. He seems nice.”
“He is,” Yuffie’s legs swing as they dangle off the construction crane. “All my friends are nice. Even Cid, once you get on his good side.”
Demyx swings his legs a little too. It’s contagious. “I wish I could spend time with you during the day. You’d like that, right?”
“Yeah.” She bumps shoulders with him. “But I kinda like having a secret for once.”
His face lights up. “Me too!”
The Way I Are ~ Timbaland
I ain't got no money / I ain't got no car to take you on a date / I can't even buy you flowers / But together we'd be the perfect soul mates / Talk to me girl
Oh, baby, it's alright now, you ain't gotta flaunt for me / If we go and touch, you can still touch my love, it's free / We can work without the perks, just you and me / Drug it out till we get it right
Sometimes he turns against her during their patrol against Heartless. She doesn’t know if he’s smarter than he thinks and is throwing off Organization spies, or if he’s betraying for the sheer fun for a couple of minutes. It’s easy to understand that she has trouble believing him when he says things like ‘You’re really pretty’ of ‘You’d be a good dancer.’ Sometimes she even wonders if he means that last one with a capital letter.
All the same, she can’t ignore his constant smile and the possibility that what he says is true. She wants him around, even if it’s not good.
The Little Things ~ Colbie Caillat
And every time you notice me by / Holding me closely and saying sweet things / I don't believe that it could be / You speaking your mind and saying the real thing
My feet have broke free and I'm leaving / I'm not going to stand here feeling lonely, but / I don't regret it and I don't think it / Was just a waste of time
The moon turns the construction yard pale blue and the scrap metal silver. “What about your friends? Are they nice?” She might as well be a beam performer in a gymnastics competition. She can back flip and front flip but her feet always return like magnets to the girder.
“Oh, I bet they would be, if they thought they had hearts like I do.” He smiled, looking at her from his own girder a little away. He has to hold his arms out for balance. “I heard Saïx was a knight or something. I bet girls like that.”
She laughed and dropped easily into a split. Demyx flinched watching her. “Some of us do. I like musicians.” He smiled shyly and scratched at the back of his head like he always did. “Why do you believe you have a heart?”
“I have to. ‘Cause otherwise I wouldn’t be able to write music or like you or write music about liking you. If they fell in love, I bet they would start realizing it too.
She hangs by her hands off the girder and waits for him to portal beneath. She drops and he catches her. The leather is cool against her bare arms. “Where did love come into it?”
She swears he blushes. He isn’t supposed to have a heart to pump blood to his face. She stands on her tiptoes and kisses him.
With You ~ Chris Brown
You're a class all your own and / Ooh, little cutie, when you talk to me / I swear the whole world stops; you're my sweetheart / I'm so glad that you're mine; you are one of a kind
You say you care for me / You know I'll care for you, you know that I'll be true / You know that I won't lie, you know that I will try / To be your everything
Now I - no, I can't be the only one / I bet it's hearts all over the world tonight / With the love of their life who feels / What I feel when I'm with you
He likes to play her new songs in her room. Sometimes he forgets that her walls aren’t sound proof, and she has to whack him over the head with a pillow during certain crescendos. She loves that he sings sometimes too, but it does make things more difficult for them.
One time, Leon knocked on her door to ask if Tifa had given her a new CD with sitar music on it. She haphazardly confirmed that yes, sitar music was quite nice, and gosh, had she heard that Merlin had dish duty tonight? “You remember what happened last time, right?” she had said.
After Leon had taken off down the stairs she leaped across the room to her closet and opened it. Demyx grinned at her, holding an old stuffed toy in his hands. “You have a stuffed Moomba!” he told her excitedly, as though she didn’t already know.
He made it too easy to fall for him.
Call Me When You Get This ~ Corinne Bailey Rae
And I have been cautious and I've tried to keep to myself / Who could love you the way I do? / Now I just want you to know / That I'm touched deep in my soul / Just being with you / And I need you more each day / Baby, if you're still awake / Call me when you get this
Life made it too easy for things to fall apart. One night she found him in the crystal caverns, his sitar music bouncing off them and calling to her like a bugle horn. He hadn’t told her he’d be coming.
She finds him crouched between closely-packed clusters. His fingers still as she approaches, and she knows something’s wrong because he’s clutching the sitar so tightly his gloves look worn around the knuckles.
He starts tripping over words: something about Castle Oblivion and someone named Larxene and another person named Zexion and there are other names in there too. He apologizes, says he wants to tell her everything, but he can’t. But mostly he says, “I don’t want that to happen to you. Please don’t let it happen to you.”
And she promises.
Soul Meets Body ~ Death Cab for Cutie
But if this silence takes you then I hope it takes me too / So, brown eyes, I'll hold you near / 'Cause you're the only song I want to hear / A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere
“You look pretty.”
She smoothes out the skirt of her birthday dress. “You always say that.”
“It’s always true.”
He takes her hand and runs through the alleyways. It is wonderful, but there’s a feeling in her that something isn’t right. They heave themselves up onto windowsills and rooftops, jumping off chimneys and using the Claymores for more bounce. The air is cool and full of starlight, and sometimes she catches his eye and the feeling melts away in his smile.
But finally, they’re on a roof somewhere and they’ve stopped moving. He turns to her and says, “I have to fight Sora.”
Kissing You ~ Craig Armstrong
instrumental
“Why are you loyal to a bunch of guys who order you into a fight you can’t win?”
“Because they’re all I have.”
“What about me?” She says, and her voice cracks. Stupid voice stupid throat stupid stupid stupid. “Am I not worth it?”
“They’re my only family, Yuffie. Think about the Restoration Committee. What would you do for them?”
She realizes she would leave him, but she doesn’t get the opportunity to lie. He kisses her, tastes like saltwater taffy, and says goodbye with his eyes so he wouldn’t trip or hesitate.
Everything still crumbles, though.
Ashes and Wine ~ A Fine Frenzy
All the same, I don't want mud slingin' games / It's just a shame to let you walk away / Is there a chance, a fragment of light / At the end of the tunnel, a reason to fight? / Is there a chance you may change your mind? / Or are we ashes and wine?
It’s quiet now.
His boots echo, though he’s not sure what the sound waves bounce off of. There’s nothing here. Just whiteness.
Sometimes, as he stumbles, he sees images moving, projected onto the blankness from a flickering camera hidden somewhere. The film is moving too slowly, he thinks. The pictures don’t flow together as smoothly as they should. Flickers of Never Was, of Xigbar’s rolling eye during his first days of training, pranks on Axel and Roxas, the ensuing chases, bothering Vexen, the Olympus Coliseum, webbed fingers in Halloweentown, a face like his but a name without an x.
A grainy song begins, like maybe it’s playing on the antique radio the scientists kept in their basement lab. It’s a requiem, crescendoing until it presses on his eardrums, strains them until he worries he’ll go deaf. It’s horrifically depressing, this song. Filled with sour sitar notes (he wonders where his is) and a discord of badly tuned trumpets and trombones and who knows what else. It hurts so much to listen...
He blinks back the mist in his eyes and concentrates on walking. Through the pain in his head he catches a glimpse of her in one of the scenes. He watches it.
She smiles. She cries. She sleeps. She jumps. She runs.
He starts to run, too. “Yuffie...”
The film is always projected just in front of him. He can’t reach it.
He chases. “Wait up!”
He keeps on going. Suddenly, there is a sound like a record scratching. The sitar notes straighten, the brass instruments tune themselves. He’s leading some sort of amazing waltz. And it’s just the right volume.
He can’t stop smiling. Even when he sees the door that’ll take him away.
Don’t let this end. Hit the repeat button.
The door opens, and he chases her into it.
I love this song.
Storm ~ Lifehouse
How long have I been in this storm? / So overwhelmed by the ocean's shapeless form / Water's getting harder to tread / With these waves crashing over my head / If I could just see you, everything would be alright / If I could just see you, this darkness would turn to light
Yuffie raises her shuriken, poised to throw. Something is coming towards her, moving down the hill from the Postern. It takes her a bit for her to identify the species in the gloom. “Oh,” she says as the Dancer glides to a stop. “Hello.”
The Nobody is surprisingly still. It makes no move to attack her. It doesn’t sway or twitch on the spot. If Yuffie didn’t know any better, she’d almost have said it looked shy. Somehow, she knew it meant no harm.
“I’m sorry, I guess. I mean, I am. I just mean he-”
She and the Dancer look at the ground at the same time. Maybe it was mimicking her actions to show a faint memory of empathy. Maybe it honestly was trying to communicate something. “You know, he was always saying he’d teach me how to dance one day. With you. I mean-- not you specifically but with your sisters and...”
It - she - glides up to her and takes her by the wrist. “Hey wait, you better not-”
And the Dancer starts leading her into a waltz. “Oh,” Yuffie says again, struggling to follow along.
It’s one-two-three, one-two-three, over and over. She starts to adjust and she swears she can hear the music playing far below the dimension’s surface.
Demyx sits on a hill in the Elysium Fields, strumming his sitar and singing to the sky. He tells of an impossible dream of finding someone again. He wonders if the sky when you’re dead is the same one as they sky when you’re alive (or as close to alive as you can be when… no, he’s always been alive).
Because if they are, they might still share a destiny.
Wherever You Are ~ Josh Gorban & Vonda Shepherd
I've hung a wish on every star / It hasn't done much good so far / I can only dream of you / Wherever you are / I'll hear you laugh / I'll see you smile / I'll be with you / Just for a while
Oh, you do so have a heart. Don't be sad!
