First it was the washer. I managed to fix it. It's our washer: we bought it when we moved in. It is all whiz-bang electronic stuff inside, and I have lost the manual, but with some random website, and the limited schematic and diagnostic pamphlet I found inside, I guessed the right broken component, found an appliance parts store, bought a suitable replacement, and swapped it in. Plus I cleaned the washer a pretty good amount.
Then it was the microwave. It has died, for reasons that are all too clear: It was an unfortunate accident. The fact that the microwave had debts to the toaster oven and the refrigerator are not relevant; nor is the fact that apparently, the ice shaver had recently taken out a life insurance policy on it. We'll be buying a new one, soon as we get a round tuit.
Most recently, it was the oven. 275° was not considered warm enough, particularly when the dial was set to 400° and we'd waited half an hour. The landlord was on the hook for that one. Our oven is a little built-in unit, resplendent in its cream color. I suspect it is original. The Appliance Guy says that apparently, the heating elements just go, after a time.
I'm still happy that I managed to fix the washer, though.
