to the lady in seat 9, table six, 15/30 game, AJ's

Dear Madam,

Let me set the stage for you: I'm the guy in seat four who showed you pocket fives after you said, "If you've got fives, I'm going to be fucking amazed." I thought I'd explain myself here, where you'll never read it.

I called your raise from the blinds, if I recall correctly, because I figured you could raise with something like ace king, and I have pocket 5s. I expect to get paid, and perhaps for you to even bluff, as you've been doing pretty consistently.

I did not expect the gentleman on my left to raise, nor you to four-bet. But I called, aware we were probably going five bets, because I can't pass up those odds. If you'll recall, the gentleman did put the cherry on top, so to speak, and three of us took the flop.

The flop was A23, if you recall. If I recall correctly, this paired your ace, and you bet. I called, because there were sixteen bets on the flop and I only needed like ten to justify drawing to the wheel. The gentleman also called.

The turn was another deuce; you bet, and I thought for a moment and called. There were at least 16 big bets in the pot, the gentleman on my left might also call, and you will probably not believe me when you see the river if I hit, so I called again, as did the gentleman on my left.

The river was a miraculous 4. I bet out, because I couldn't trust you to do so, but I suspect a check-raise from me would have worked. The gentleman folded, someone near your end of the table made some inappropriate comment about pocket fives, and you called.

You whined about the river, I said something really weird about the turn. I apologized for that then and apologize for it now, except that maybe it worked to sew a little seed that says, "the quiet, tight guy in the black jacket is insane." We'll find out if I managed to do so next time.

Assuming you had a mere ace-king, I had six outs on fourth street for an easy call, given pot odds.

My only regret is that I didn't say "presto" when I showed down.

Thanks for paying off!

Love,

Tim
