A public post. An explanation.

Jun 16, 2005 22:37

Since 2001, I've happily used LiveJournal to express my inner ramblings and to connect with friends, old and new, from online and off. I even bought a permanent account because I enjoy the service so much.

However, due to unfortunate online stalking incidents in the early days of my LJ-hood, I've made all my posts friends-only. That means I have to add your LJ username to my Friends List to let you read anything I write here. And I have become rather selective about who I add.

I use LJ as a personal diary, recording whatever's in my head that day, from the silly to the sublime. I make to-do lists, I talk about politics, I plan costumes, I dream of travel, I complain about the state of the world, I share stupid links, I talk about relationships, I contemplate buying stuff off eBay, I imagine my future, I ruminate on my past, I review what I had for dinner, I follow some memes and quizzes even.

I also use LJ to keep up on the daily happenings of my friends, many of whom are scattered around the world. I occasionally connect with new people through our shared interests. I'm even open to friends-of-friends.

However, I do not allow total strangers to read what I write. And I usually don't care to read what strangers post either.

If you're not currently on my Friends List but you want to be, you can comment here. I'll consider it, but no promises. If you think you know me from somewhere, please elaborate. Did we go to school together, work together, volunteer together? Are you a friend of someone I know offline or on? Tell me why I should add you. Please note that I'll read your public LJ posts to verify who you are and see if I'm interested in your own writing.

Yeah, this all sounds awfully picky. That's just the way the online privacy cookie has crumbled for me. A few bad apples spoiled the bunch, to mix food metaphors.

Everything I want to be public is already public on my personal site at http://www.trystancraft.com or on my business site at http://www.ttrealtravels.com . Both are updated whenever I have new content to share, and everyone is welcome to explore those sites. But my journal is more private. Thank you for understanding.
