New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve:

*i had to work, but only for a few hours. around noon, yumemitai, aka Aunt F, came over to take the girls to lunch and then head to the mall with the theatre we'd be seeing Les Miserables at.

*after work and lunch, i headed over to the mall to see Les Mis. we ended up having to sit quite near the front, as there weren't four seats together in the back part of the theatre. it's one that has stadium seating, so there really isn't a "bad" seat. the seats in the front leaned back a little bit - it was kinda like 3D but not really. also when the camera/movie moved over land or water, it kinda felt like i was moving right along with it. it was a strange sensation.

*the movie: skip this part if you know nothing at all about the show, book, movies or musicals. i own three of the movies (a '30s b&w one; one from 78, i think, with Anthony Perkins as Javert; and the latest with Liam Neeson), i saw the stage performance New Year's Eve in 1996, and i read the book a lonnnng time ago.

~Javert reporting to Monsuier L'Mayor about not doing his duty in failing to report something came from at least one of the movies, and probably the book. Valjean taking Cosette to a convent (and she goes to school there) is also from the book/movies.

~there were two lines i would have kept from the musical in the movie. right after the movie i'd mentioned 1, but later thought of another.

**when Valjean goes to relieve the Thénardiers of Cosette, one of their lines in their song is "One thing more, one small doubt, There are treacherous people about." as the audience we saw it with laughed every time the Thénardiers were on screen, and i LOVED that Thénardier himself kept calling her "Collette," this would have gotten a laugh too. heh.

**after the events of the Barricade, and after Marius sings "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables," we see Marius, helped by Cosette and followed by Valjean, entering Valjean's house, and Cosette sings:Every day
You walk with stronger step
You walk with longer step -
The worst is over.
*pause*
Don't think about it, Marius!
With all the years ahead of us!
I will never go away
And we will be together
Every day.
at that pause, there's something missing, and i think this is important. this was the first line i thought of that should have been added. that pause is actually the omission of a line from the musical, in which Marius says "Every day, I wonder every day, Who was it brought me here from the barricade?"

~the cast. after much thought, i realised that yes, i do like everyone in the movie. i LOVED Colm Wilkinson - the Bishop. totally awesome he was in it! i loved all the main characters, and Hugh Jackman made a great Valjean. Russell Crowe as Javert could have been a bit more menacing, though. he needed more "rawr!" (think Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugative. heh.)

*after the movie, M and i stopped to get Papa John's pizza for dinner, and we looked through yumemitai awesome scrapbooks of the two trips to Disney her and my girls took summer of 2011 and 2009.

*we watched Once Upon a Time starting with the Pilot, and got us ALL totally hooked. we paused only twice in our viewing of the first 6 or 7 episodes: the second time was at about 11:55 to watch the Ball drop in Times Square at midnight. the first however, was for Aunt F to give the girls some MMs to eat during our tv watching. J took the bag, and started to read the words printed on them... "Disney" "Fantasy" "Cruise" "2013"!! it took a moment for them to realise they were going on another Disney cruise summer of 2013!

great way to start the New Year! =)
