odds and ends

*forgot to mention: the character of Ariadne in Inception - very cool name, and well-chosen. Ariadne was a Greek immortal who was the wife of Dionysus. she was also associated wtih thread-spinning and winding attributes, not unlike the Goddess Arachne.

there's also something called "Ariadne's thread" in logic, and wiki says it's a "term used to describe the solving of a problem with multiple apparent means of proceeding - such as a physical maze, a logic puzzle, or an ethical dilemma - through an exhaustive application of logic to all available routes."

anyone who's seen the movie will understand the part i've bolded. it's a very-well chosen name for the character.

*kept meaning to post but never did: back when Deathly Hallows II came out, one of the trailers they showed looked cool enough for me to "jot it down" in the memo feature of my phone: John Carter. last month i started seeing commercials on the tv, leading up to the movie's release on March 9th. i KNOW the trailers and marketing of the movie underwent drastic change from when i saw the first promo. i know they dropped "from Mars" from the title. i know the spin on the promos changed. i KNOW it did all these things. but the change was profound enough for me to scratch my head and wonder why i put that memo in my phone - it looked like a totally completely different movie.

my question is: is the original promo from July 2011 online somewhere?

*finished my sojourn in Discworld for a while, as i've finished reading Guards! Guards!. a very enjoyable book. now i'm back to visit Coruscant. or the Hollows. or whatever book the library tells me is available for me to read. =)
