FK Ep ~ "Dead Air" (Forever Knight, 1x10, 9/22/1992)

Jan 13, 2012 14:05

so about a million years ago (ok, 2007, close enough) i started rewatching Forever Knight. and after the first 8 episodes, a few things happened: my laptop's capping program went on the fritz, and i tried to find a new one. after a while, my laptop's memory was pretty crappy (512 MB of RAM!) so i changed computers, which didn't have a DVD drive.

bah. so when i got a DVD drive, i checked out the movie programs on my Ubuntu and tried a few. trouble was, the caps were so small, i didn't really like the size. so, no screencaps. also when you only have 1 GB of RAM, it's pretty much doing only one thing at a time. so the best way i'll be doing this is to just watch and present my thoughts and some quotes and stuff. and maybe even a cap or two.

i'll start with the synopsis from tv.com: Someone's calling CTOK radio's on-air psychiatrist and murdering women on the air. Dr. Noble comes to Nick's aid -- to Stonetree's dismay--while Schanke searches through psychiatric records. Noble thinks the killer is acting out a murderous fantasy--one that may involve her.

[Nick and his partner Schanke are talking about a popular radio shrink, the topic on the show being about showing your "shadow side."]
Schanke: See what i mean? last week she had a guy on who was talking about making it with his monther-in-law. The week before that was single women who've made it with pizza delivery boys. I mean, c'mon. She even had a discussion about --
Nick: I thought you never listened to that stuff, Schank.
Schanke: well, y'know, once in a while i do
Nick: oh, once in a while, yeah.
Schanke: Research.
^^i love these guys. this was my first show i really watched that (in retrospect) had two guys driving around in a really cool car, and i love their banter. come to think of it, FK was the first show i really could watch when regularly - i had a VCR and we had cable, and this was back when the SciFi Channel was worthy of it's name.

Natalie, the ME/Cororner, at the crime scene: "This stuff makes vampires look like cute little schoolboys."
^^Oh Nat.....

in a flashback, Lacroix and Janette are toying with a man they're going to be drinking their blood from:
Nick: If you're going to drink his blood, do it and be done with it.
Lacroix: My poor miserable friend, what a shallow existance you must be enduring. Nicholas, I hope that some day you will come to realise and appreciate the greater depths of satisfacion that can be plumbed in killing, for the pleasure... for the sheer ....creativity of doing it.
Nick: you sicken me, Lacroix.
Lacroix: don't watch.
^^so typical Lacroix. hee!

in one of the scenes, Nick is laying on his floor, going over the things that have been said in relation to the case (and his flashback). this is a common device in the show - voice-overs, mostly showing what's going on with Nick. two things about this scene: at the beginning, Nick is throwing cards up in the air - i think they're tarot cards - abnd they have a pentagram on the back of them. heh. the second thing is the song playing through this montage is "the Night Calls My Name."

the doctor, Dr. Noble, goes to meet a former patient, who happens to be a particular guest star by the name of David Hewlett. (yep, Stargate David Hewitt.) he had a little more hair back in 1992, but... heh.

and Nick as a talk-show host? HOT.
