once i realised the import of last week's episode, i knew i was right that Dean was going to say yes to Michael.

BUT - we know they survive... there is a S6. ;)

I think Dean has always been doing God's work and it has nothing to do with him saying "yes" to Michael. God sent Dean a message "leave me alone" I think it's like when the mentor kicks the student to the curb, it's time for him to stand on his own merits, find his own worth, the goodness that is and always has been in him. Personally I don't think God wants Dean to say "yes" to Michael. God always does His work through man, not through angels or angels using men. That is how men find their worth, by following their hearts, taking the higher, lonelier and unpopular path. And I believe that is the path Dean will eventually take.

while that sounds wonderfully awesome and a great theme for a novel based on this character, i'm pretty sure that's not quite what Eric had in mind for S5.

i understand what you're saying, and back in S1 and S2, Eric said the "angels" were the hunters. but his mythology has taken a huge turn into Kripkeology, and it's no longer "bible canon," if you will.

I'm sure you are correct. I am always wrong when I try to guess where the show will go. so for the most part I don't. But sometimes my wishful thinking gets the better of me. Maybe it is the novelist in me, looking for the Campbell mythological path.
That said, last nights ep was so rockin! I loved the music, the action and the fantastic acting. J2 Just get better and better.
