I'm Back
Ok, so I got back almost a week ago. But it's taken me that long to get reintegrated into my normal life.
PreChallenge was interesting. I am working with one of the male platoons this cycle (3rd platoon). Luckily, I got the good ones :) 2nd platoon (the other males) are tore up from the floor up... in a MAJOR way! They had problems the entire PreChal and they just carried over once we got back here to Dillon. Day 2 here and 1/2 of their platoon went AWOL...at ONE TIME. A few girls went (1st platoon) and 2 of my guys went. One of my two went because one of his best friends in 2nd platoon went and he wanted to try to talk him into coming back.
We brought back 79 kids from PreChallenge and by Day 5 in Dillon we are down to 72. The rest got sent home due to things they did while they were AWOL. Things like popping hot on a UA and of course, we had a group that thought it would be great to steal a car. That group is facing criminal charges as well. The 2 kids that popped hot just got sent home. Unfortunately, when these kids go AWOL and do stupid shit like stealing someone's car, they give Youth Challenge a serious black eye with the town. It is very frustrating. But, it is also somewhat to be expected since we ARE dealing with At-risk-youth. These are not the well-behaved kids of society.
Anyway, it's been a helluva ride so far. Hopefully, by getting rid of the ones we have, as quickly as we did, it will bring the rest of them in line and things will quiet down. One can hope...right???
