Ryeowook is quite sure he’s dying. He was minding his own
business, and then he was choking, and now he’s quite certain
he’s dying and, really, death by ddeokbukki was not how he
expected it to happen in the end. His mother would be very
disappointed in him, he thinks, and perhaps Yesung would
yell at him for being stupid and dieing in such a silly way.
He finds it’s a bit like watching a movie: he’s not really
connected to his body anymore, feeling oddly calm,
detached from the whole messy situation (asides from the
feeling of amusement that the horrible headlines from his
untimely death will result in), and darkness is starting to
blot out his visions, black creeping into the edges of his
vision as though he’s gotten a wicked head rush, but it’s not
getting any better and he can’t see (and this is really, truly
the end, he thinks) and-
Then there are strong hands pressing into his ribs, and one,
two, three, four painful pushed to his chest before the piece of
fish cake is dislodged from his throat, spat out and with the
first real breath in, he’s brought back to reality.
He’s sputtering and coughing and the lingering taste burns his
throat worse than the rye that Heechul once forced him to drink,
and he turns to catch sight of his saviour. His ears ring with
Eeteuk’s slightly hysteric sounding laughter, that residual crack of
fright marring the usually sound, and he’s grateful when the leader
grasps him as the adrenalin in his system crashes with his knees
buckling, pulling him in for an awkward, too tight hug. It’s warm
and comforting and tangible and slightly painful, but it makes him
feel properly alive again.
His throat, mouth, lips, lungs, everything still hurts, but Eeteuk still
hasn’t let him go, seconds turning into minutes as both boys calm down.
“I’m never eating again,” he croaks out, letting Eeteuk laugh against
his hair, his arms holding tighter.
