The reveal list for
reversathon is up. I've been waiting to say this for a few days now, so:
It was
lyras that wrote the absolutely fantastic
An Unequal Magic for me. It's gen fiction - a couple of hints of Snape/Harry, perfectly done - and post-war. It's about Petunia, although of course it has Snape too.
lyras' style is lovely, a beautiful mingling of theme and detail: the conversations and tone are absolutely spot on, and the illumination of Petunia's thoughts and life is superb.
I am failing to convey here how much I liked this piece of fiction - I liked it very much indeed, and even if you've cavailing at the gen I urge you to go and read it, for it is well worth the time. This is why I don't do recs...
You'll find my own fic for
Reversathon (I wrote for
leni_jess, I find, yay.) Nettle Soup and Gooseberries, with all attendant warnings,
here. I owe huge thanks to
regan_v and to
bethia_cathrain for beta work above and beyond - I got really stuck with this one, and
regan_v 's comments were hugely useful.
I will admit that I wish I'd had a wee bit more time with this one - I feel as if I re-used a familiar setting rather than challenging myself to something new - but I was quite pleased with the understated politics. :) And
leni_jess seemed to like it, phew.
However. (And I have been waiting to say this until the reveal) I think I nicked someone else's simile for Nettle Soup. It's the one at the end - Harry bent like a paperclip - I'm sure it's not mine, but for the life of me cannot remember who or where it came from. It'll have to change when NS posts to the website.
I should finally mention that the journal,
q_i, which was used to post to
reversathon, has passed to new ownership. And if you look
here, bottom right, you will see a picture of the new owner. *wicked grin*
