mythicbeast, thank *you* for this small essay of a comment! I can't tell you how much I appreciated the time you took to read, and write, and let me know what you thought about this story - I'm truly touched and grateful. Thank you so much.

I'm so glad to know that it worked for you - especially the minor characters. And it's lovely to know you liked Felicia and Mame. I'm really fond of this Filipino couple! There's an essay - I could have sworn it was in Samois' second book of essays, Second Coming, but it's not, I've just checked, and it's not in the first, Coming to Power either - anyway, an excellent and unforgettable essay about Filipino lesbian culture in the 50s and 60s. When I learnt that San Francisco had a small and vibrant Filipino community in the 20s, I really wanted to slide someone in there somewhere, just a nod to the women in that essay? I'm so very glad you liked these two!

... yeah. I really wanted something that wasn't black and white, no right choices or easy solutions, as messy as these things tend to be. I'm glad it worked for you - I know this isn't a story with a happy ever after. But I ought to add that I'm so glad you came away from your second read a little more light hearted, because I rather think that what Sam needs is Dean, and the rest can (mostly) go hang.

Thank you so much, truly. I really, really appreciate the time it took to think about and write out your comments: I'm so grateful. Thank you.
