Sometimes the best words are those left unspoken...

I think sometimes one forgets the true power of words. My mother once told me that you should never write anything down that you might change your mind about later, for once it's written, you can never take it back. I've been thinking a lot about the power of words. Sure, written words often come back to bite their author in the ass, but spoken words can be just as powerful, especially when they are spoken, or on occasion shouted, in the heat of the moment. It's funny how you can live your life completely oblivious to the way others view you. And it hurts when you discover that although you've spent so long trying to change, to become a better person, someone you once loved with all your heart doesn't see it...doesn't realize that you're not the same selfish person you once were. A lot can change with time, especially in instances where a lot of time has passed. People change. Their motives change. Sadly it appears that first impressions really do count the most. You may change, but you can never escape the person you once were when it comes to who you are in another's eyes. And no matter how much you hope, wish, pray that they'll see how much you've changed, how much you've grown, sometimes it's enough simply to see it in yourself.
