So Colin, my mom, and I went to look at apartments last Saturday in Chicago. They actually weren't as bad as a thought!!! There were a couple bad ones of course... but I might actually be able to afford a decent place!!! I'd really like to get one in a complex so that whenever Colin decides to join me in Chicago... he has a better chance of getting in the same building. Colin and I are going again this Saturday to look at more. I still can't decide between living in the city or a suburb. I even made a pro/con list and they weighed out pretty evenly.... I'm so bad at decisions!!! Anyone have anything I can add to a pro/con list... or have an opinion on city vs. suburb???? I can use all the help I can get!!!
This past weekend I went to Quincy for Matt and Clare's reception. It was so much fun!!! I got there Friday afternoon though... so Colin and I had ourselves a little adventure. On the way in to town I saw a sign for a park.... so after I got to Colin's... we drove out there. It was so pretty... we just drove around the entire park and found a water park we never knew about. We even feed some ducks with a few crackers we found in the car. Well... then we decided to see what else was in Quincy that we never knew about. We drove to the other end of town and soon came upon some signs that said "Canton Chute Recreational Area" with arrows... so... we followed them. Pretty soon we ended up down a gravel road which quickly turned to mud. We tried to go a little further to see if we could find the advertised "recreation"... but inevitably the car was soon stuck in the mud. We tried to push the car out... but it wasn't budging.... the wheels just spun us deeper into the mud. So we tried to call some friends to come help us. First we called Jamie who was with Brandy. They said they had to go eat first and then maybe they could come rescue us. Strike one. So we called Jenny and Tim. Jenny said that as soon as Tim got to her place they would come help us. So we waited. And waited. Pretty soon Colin was cursing me for feeding our only food source to the ducks. Finally Jenny called us back and said they came out there but couldn't find us and they were on their way back to town. Strike two. So Colin and I are determined to get out of this mud without calling a tow truck. Especially since we couldn't really give him directions. So we found a tiki stick and dug out the tires as much as we could and used his floor mats from his car as traction under the tires. We repeated this several times along with pushing and giving it a little gas. We managed to move the car sideways a few feet. Sideways... however... was only more mud. By this time we had been out in the middle of nowhere getting eaten alive by mosquitoes for almost two hours.... and it was starting to get dark. So we decided we better start walking. Through sheer luck we came upon a half naked guy with a beer can who was willing to help. He came out to the car to see if he could help push... no such luck. So he went to get his pick-up to tie a cable to the car and pull us out. As soon as he arrived back... it started pouring rain and was pitch black by then. The poor guy still layed under the car to attach the cable and succeeded in pulling us out. Thank the Lord for half naked alcoholics with pick up trucks!!!!! So we finally get back to town and immediately go to a car wash to get the mud off not only the car... but ourselves. By this time it is about 10pm and we have yet to eat dinner... although a shower has also taken precedence. As we get back into the car to head home the radio plays "Mama said there'll be days like this, there'll be days like this my mama said". So true, so true.
After our escapade on Friday... we didn't do much on Saturday except go to the reception. We had a blast and it was nice to see Quincy people. Marla, Phil, Billy, Brandy, Jamie, Heidi, Jenny, Tim, Sarah, Bri, and of course Matt and Clare were all there. And some other people who I never knew that well... but it was still good to see them. We danced till we dropped... which didn't actually take that much. The only bad thing was that they said they would play the Grease Megamix and they never did!!! And no... I wasn't the only one upset about that. Marla was my dance buddy through all the fun songs... like the Chicken Dance and the Macarena and stuff.... we even attempted a swing dance!!
There's a blues festival in town this weekend... I think Colin and I are going to go Friday night, then go to Chicago Saturday. I'm glad we've gotten to see each other so much this summer... but it's going to be horrible when I move up to Chicago and he's still down in Quincy... then how are we going to end up stuck in mud for hours at a time?!?!?
