(Skinner has just saved a woman's life, possibly as a result of paranormal circumstances.)
SKINNER: Is there a problem, Agent Mulder?
MULDER: Yeah, there's something else you'll find missing in there. An explanation for how you knew to be at the hotel last night. I was hoping you could fill in that line item yourself.
SKINNER: I'm afraid I can't do that, at least not at this point in time.
MULDER: Why not?
SKINNER: Because whatever I believe may have happened ... it has no place on an official report.
MULDER: Then why don't you tell me? Off the record.
(Scully can tell how much a confession from Skinner would mean to Mulder. Skinner continues after a moment of hesitation.)
SKINNER: If you'll excuse me, I've got some catching up to do.
This episode is full of a lot of interesting stuff, most importantly our first look at Skinner's private life. I love this moment because it shows how desperately Mulder wants Skinner to be able to relate to him, especially when it comes to his beliefs. And it also shows how in tune Scully is to these needs -- she really feels for him in this scene. And Duchovny does one some of his best sad puppy dog eyes. :)
