I'll Write You a Song and I Hope That You Won't Mind

Give me music. I'm on a quest to broaden my musical horizons and I need your help. Suggest to me any artists or songs that you think are worthy enough for me to listen to. I want EVERYONE who reads this to suggest at least one artist/song, that's easy enough right? Ready go!

as Leah said, try some classical... why not? here are some specifics in that category (all the composers she said are great, but here are some particular pieces):

Shostakovich - Festive Overture, Symphony No. 5, Symphony No. 9

Ravel - Daphnis and Chloe <3 but that's kind of weird... it's impressionist so it's a little "out there" I guess... also by Ravel: his String Quartet is amazing...

Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No. 2, Symphony No. 2

Beethoven - anything!!! I've never heard anything by him that I didn't like. try a Symphony - the ones I know are Five (that's the famous one), Nine (that's the ode to joy one), and Seven (gorgeous slow movement)

Bach - this may not be particularly exciting, but Leah and I love it - Bach Cello Suites 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Holst - the Planets

Sibelius - violin concerto (this is truly amazing)

Elgar - cello concerto

Dvorak - cello concerto, New World Symphony, violin concerto, "The American" String Quartet (the first movement is amazing!)

Debussy - String Quartet

Moussourgsky (sp?) - Night on Bald Mountain

Schubert - a String Quartet called "Death and the Maiden"

Popper - Hungarian Rhapsody (for cello)

Tchaikovsky - Violin Concerto, Symphony No. 4, Symphony No. 5 (probably others too but I don't know them), Serenade for String Orchestra, Romeo and Juliet Fantasy-Overture

Borodin - Polovetsian Dances

OOH OOH this one's a winner:
Prokofiev - Romeo and Juliet!!! ahhh! this is my favorite thing ever. The most famous movement (probably because it's the best thing in the world) is "Montagues and Capulets."
Prokofiev's piano concerto is pretty darn cool too.

Respighi - Pines of Rome, Fountains of Rome

Vaughan Williams - Five Variants of Dives and Lazarus, Lark Ascending

Richard Strauss - Death and Transfiguration, Till Eulenspiegal's (sp?) Merry Pranks, Don Juan, etc.

Apocalyptica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (cello rock band) I liked Toreador...

hahaha sorry about the quantity... I'm sure I could come up with more in a heartbeat if you wanted me to
