Gaston Leroux's 'The Phantom of the Opera' is one of my favourite books, and I prefer it to the musical and the movie, despite the singing, dancing, etc. And slightly OT, but 'translations' are always interesting too, like Romeo and Juliet to West Side Story (and whatever else there is), and La Dame Aux Camellias to Moulin Rouge. :)

I really dislike the Harry Potter movies. The first one was fine, the second one was too, but third was okay, but the fourth movie relied too much on the fact the audience had seen the book. The continuity was awful. I know, everyone has read Harry Potter, but the fact peeved me to no end.

I actually thought the 3rd one was seriously guilty of that too... making the movie for fans who had read it.
