Yes, folks, you read the subject line correctly! Has it been that long? Anyway, let's get cracking. Today, instead of a discussion, we have something I like to call a "Let Me Rec You" post. You comment with anything (author, a word in the title, genre, character, anything) and people (this means you) get to reply with one or more book/comic titles ( Read more... )

Erotica is just fine with me! But what is D/s? Same as S&M maybe?

it's dominance/submission. The kushiel series, now that you mention it, may be more SM though.

*Thirty kajillion years later I go through my inbox to organize, delete, etc and I find this post*

So I've read the first two Kushiel books. I made a friend who decided I should read them, and I said "hmm, that sounds mighty familiar" when she told me about the series.

Come back to now, and hey! I've read the first two! AWESOME!

Just thought I'd say that, lol.

Back to your regularly scheduled piracy, then.

Black Jewels Series by Anne Bishop - same as above and she's not even the focus of the book, at least in the first book.

I second the Terry Pratchett rec. A Hat Full of Sky is actually the second book in the Tiffany Achings series, with the first being The Wee Free Men, and the third is Wintersmith.

You might also like the comic Runaways, by Brian K. Vaughan (and now Joss Whedon), because there are some kickass girls in that one. Young Avengers, by Allan Heinberge, is pretty good too, and with this title, you don't need the decades full of backstory as you would with the normal Avengers.

His Dark Materials, by Phillip Pullman is one of the best out there. Start with Northern Lights (Or if you're in North America, The Golden Compass). I've also heard good things about his Sally Lockhart series, which starts with The Ruby in The Smoke, I think.
