Hearts and Sleeves

Jan 14, 2007 10:39

If God wanted you to wear your heart on your sleeve, he would have ripped it out of your chest and placed it there. Instead he buried it deep in your chest hidden from the eyes to see, because when you live life with your heart on your sleeve, any thing can damage it, you can't protect yourself from the elements, the sun can burn it, the wind can cut it, and the rain can drown it and the only way to protect it, is to cover it up with a thick shell of ice from the winter chill, numbing it from you and everyone else. In honesty, you should keep it in your chest, where it can still be warm and beating, protected from the elements, pierced only by bullets shells and blades edge.

The irony of it all is because you have your heart on your sleeve, you keep your dagger in your hand, when it should be kept on your side only to be used when danger strikes, but because your heart is open, you feel defenseless even in the breeze and you swing wildly attacking and hurting everyone around you, even when there is no cause for alarm.

Remember, though, as Kahlil Gibran wrote "God rests in reason and moves in passion... And since you are a breath In God's sphere, and a leaf in God's forest, you too should rest in reason and move in passion." Don't let your emotions take hold of you , in the end it will consume you, trying to rest in your passions will only, in time, burn threw your soul. We are beings of thought and of sound mind and judgement, we discuss and celebrate life and if moved to we are passionate and feel emotion like no other creature on this planet. Be calm and of stillness of mind and heart, together they should be working. In tandem, they create reason and passion, alone, they create chaos and confusion.

Peace,

Gavin
