[Naoto speaks in a tired monotone, as if she has recorded similar posts in the past. It's apparent that she's been keeping a careful chronicle of events as they have transpired. Who else more suited to the task than a former detective?]
November 19th, 2012
It has been 330 days since the world succumbed to the cold darkness of the fog. We lost communication with the outside world months ago. Our connection with the community has remained stable thus far, but for how long? I dread the day when I switch on the computer, only to find a blank screen to greet me...
[A sigh. Full of weariness.]
With winter soon to set in, it is imperative that we begin restocking our dwindling supplies. Food, water, clothing, gasoline, firewood... These are all essential for our continued survival. But Inaba has little to offer. Even with careful rationing, what we've managed to salvage from various residents and supermarkets over the past year has been meager, at best. Even Junes is naught but an empty husk.
[Her breath catches at the mention of the Junes mega supermarket. As if painful memories are attached to that place... She pauses for a moment and continues speaking.]
I fear we must soon foray into neighboring cities if we are to survive the winter. And the further we range from our carefully defended stronghold, the more likely one of us will fall prey to the Shadows... [Another moment of silence.] Even with the various traps and barriers to keep them at bay, some always manage slip through our defenses... Everyday we're forced to fight for our lives, without rest.
[Her tone becomes increasingly despairing.]
We are... besieged here at my ancesteral estate. Morale remains steady but... I fear that I am struggling to maintain the same level of optimism as my companions. History has shown time and time again that unless the besieged can break the enemy ranks, they will eventually succumb to starvation, illness or... madness. But how can a handful of teenagers possibly fight against an enemy that numbers in the tens of thousands?
Our only hope lies in defeating the source of the Shadows... Izanami. [There is an edge of steel in her voice when she utters that name.] But to reach her, we must first defeat her dark emissaries, Magatsu Izanagi and Adachi...
With every Shadow we defeat, we grow stronger. It is my fervent hope that very soon, we will become strong enough to face the Goddess Herself... and win.
We failed to prevent the apocalypse. But we shall not fail to save what remains of the world. I have to believe that with the defeat of the Goddess, our world will return to the way it once was, and that those who were transformed into Shadows will be restored to human form...
