File 49 - [Backdated to this morning]

I had a rather strange dream last night...

I was the leader of a five man team known as the Defenders of Earth. Mello was my sidekick and second in command; Matt was our brainy computer expert and technician; Kanji was the android with a human heart (who constantly carried a kitten on his shoulders); and Yosuke-senpai was... well, pretty useless ( Read more... )

devit, karen minazuki, tyki mikk, dr. william birkin, mihael "mello" keehl, misumi nagisa, suguru kinniku, well this is awkward, shirogane estate, setsuna f. seisei, rise kujikawa, issei ryudo, my subconscious mind is a strange place, dreams, souji seta

I think it's an indication that I should! My dreams aren't anywhere near that interesting normally!

Really? What sort of anime do you normally watch?

I remember now that Souji-senpai was there, and he was still your boyfriend. He was a back-up pilot, but he was put on the frontlines after Mello made a heroic sacrifice (except he didn't really die) and he became the new second-in-command.

Hmm, I don't really watch that much! When I was younger I really liked Sailor Moon, though, and I had a few bit parts in romance anime.

Just like Sempai, to step up and take the lead!

I've never really stopped watching anime, though I was partial to the classics. Voltron, Ninja Science Team Gatachaman, Macross (which is what we were watching last night). I still enjoy watching that live-action sentai show, Phoenix Featherman Ranger R. I say you're never too old for good anime.

Well, he wanted very much to prove himself to Dojima, who was the Secretary of Defense and his uncle. He really wasn't much different from the way he normally behaves.

I don't think it was the giant robot anime as much as it was the drugs you were taking.

...Was I in it?

I wasn't taking any drugs. In fact, I was completely unaware that there was even a party going on the night before. Though that would explain the strange text messages I received from Yosuke-senapi...

Actually, you were. You were one of the scientists whose duty was to discover the aliens' weakness. But you were captured and held hostage, so we had to rescue you.

So Yosuke actually followed Adachi's advice and got hammered? Nice.

I'm honored you bothered to save me from Tyki's clutches. Though I wouldn't have minded much. I happen to have a soft spot for rock music.

Wait, you're saying Adachi put him up to this? What exactly was Yosuke-senpai trying to prove?

Well, I suppose the rational was that music could affect the emotional state of human beings, so when they played emo music, the Earth Defense Force became so depressed that they just laid down and started sobbing. You were the one who figured out that the same could hold true for the aliens.

HEY. Why are we bumbling subordinates?

How should I know? Because you're shorter than Tyki? The evil mastermind is always taller and more imposing that his subordinates. That's why they're the leader!

If it's any consolation, you had a really good singing voice? And you played a mean electric guitar.

Yeah, but we know way more about heavy metal rock and roll than he ever would!

...That helps.

Well, I'm sure you do. Dreams aren't always accurate representations of reality, after all. Everyone was just thrown into some kind of role, like actors in a movie. That's all.

You also used your guitar as a weapon, too.

Say, that reminds me: did you ever finish watching G Gundam? It's in the same genre as Macross, which inspired this dream I had.

Robot anime marathons, huh? That sure does bring back memories...

By the way, do you know when that new Phoenix Featherman Ranger R movie we saw is coming out on DVD?

You used to do the same thing, Senpai? What were some of your favorite shows?

As far as I know, the release date is set for June 10th. In August, they'll be showing the latest summer blockbuster.

You dreamed of me, did you, Naoto?

And I was an alien king! That's exciting.

You had a rather... elaborate costume. Very glam rock, like something Ziggy Stardust would have worn. You also used your guitar as a weapon.

You managed to defeat an entire platoon simply by playing some emo song that made everyone so depressed, they no longer had the will to fight.

...wow.

That was the basic premise behind Macross. They took the old adage: "Music's charm shall sooth the savage beast" and brought it to it's logical conclusion. The Zentradi were a completely warlike race, but the power of Lynn Minmay's love songs awakened their buried emotions, and the Zentradi understood that there was more to life than just constant war. It truly is a classic in the giant robot genre.
