Well, you're only interested in gems that are both valuable and have a history tied to their names. This particular gem has a rather sordid past, doesn't it? Even its namesake is steeped in the mists of time, drawing upon one of the oldest legends of our country.
You mean the story of the Amano-Iwato, the Cave of the Sun Goddess? Well, I don't know if I believe in it literally, but I can't very well deny the message present in the story. It's a story so ingrained in the culture of the Japanese people, that there must be some bit of truth to it.
Ancient tales told by the campfire were meant to impart certain truths and treasured wisdom among people. Moral tales, cautionary tales. Stories to explain who we are and where we are going. They were the answer to those fundamental questions that Man would ask himself when gazing up at the stars and asked, "Who am I? Why am I here? Where will I go when I die?"
The story of the Amano-Iwato is meant to teach us that reconciliation is always possible, even between those who represent opposing forces. That's why Amaterasu gifted Susano-Oh with that jewel when his penance was finally completed. That is the Storm God's Tear.
I'm interested to know what sort of lesson a Phantom Thief would take away from this story...
