File 43 - [Backdated to the 24th]
So, the case of the phantom thief of Inaba has finally come to a close. I've recovered all seven of the Detective's Tools that he's stolen and overcome his challenges. But in truth, there was no phantom thief; it was all an act put on by my Grampa... By enticing me to play this childish game, he wanted to remind me of real reason why I became a detective in the first place.
When people ask me why I became a detective, I used to say, "Because I was born to do this," or "Because it's my family's occupation." I wanted to make my parents proud. I wanted to prove to the world that I was a "true" Shirogane. I wanted to be needed, to be accepted. But these reasons all came later as I grew older, and I forgot what spurned me to take up this occupation in the first place.
The original reason I wanted to become a detective... It was because mysteries intrigued me... and I could help people by solving them. That's all. I remember now... To think, I had forgotten such a simple truth as that. It took a phantom thief (or two, or three...) to remind me, and I am grateful to you all.
I think I can finally accept myself. That I'm a woman... That I haven't yet become the detective that I wanted to be... I need only have faith in myself, and someday, I will become the detective that I've always dreamed of being.
Thank you, Senpai, for helping me with this case. You and all the others... you've given me a reason to stay. You gave me a place to stay... And I will always think of Inaba as my home now, thanks to all of you.
