File 21 - Recovery

Oct 27, 2009 13:32

Well, that was an exciting few days, wasn't it? At least my stay in the hospital wasn't completely boring. And I even got to take down a few of those shambling corpses myself! I can definitely see the appeal. No wonder Kaito and Hakuba looked like they were having such a good time!

I was discharged this morning, and Minato-kun took me home. Suffice ( Read more... )

If you're well enough to fight zombies, that must mean that you've recovered nicely.

I received some magical healing, so I'm completely recovered!

Besides, I was fighting zombies even before I was healed. Just as long as I can use my right arm, I can fire a gun that uses anything smaller than .357 rounds easily.

As long as you're careful about it... But I know what you mean about the magical healing. It's certainly helpful.

Don't worry! I've been needing an excuse to go for a little target practice anyway!

How are you holding up?

Not an activity I find appealing, but to each his own.

I'm doing well enough. After a worldhop-assisted relocation, I'm confident that zombies can't get into this house.

Paper targets are boring. Besides, you think I can just sit idly by when my friends' lives are in danger?

Who are you staying with right now?

That, I can sympathize with. I'd be doing the same had I any combat skills.

I'm repossessing my archnemisis' house while she's out of the country, so at the moment it's only me and Haruto in here.

You know, I could teach you how to use a handgun. It's not all that difficult.

That's good to know. I don't know how magic works in your world, but as a Buddhist monk, perhaps you can create some wards to keep you safe for the time being?

Really? I'm not certain that I have the talent... or should even be learning how, as a monk.

Aah, I'd like to, but I don't have the blood or the training to do that kind of thing. None of the monks in my temple have known how for generations - magic's only practiced by a very small percent of the population, and in secret. Of course, the wards on our temple have been working for about a thousand years without our knowledge.

...well, I'd only teach someone who is willing to learn. And it's not as though you'd ever have to use a gun in self-defense. Many people simply learn for the joy of shooting. Targets, of course. Just like with archery.

Ah, I see. Well, as long as you're in a safe place, it doesn't really matter.

Ah, that's right. Although I don't see the appeal in it myself, I do have friends involved in archery for its own sake, and it must be likewise for marksmanship.

That's my opinion of it. I don't have any desire to get involved with my own world's magic, unless I need it in order to survive or protect someone else.

Precisely. Of course, I'm not going to ask you to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. It was merely a suggestion.

As far as I see it, magical forces are often dangerous and unpredictable, no matter what world you come from.

I don't think that sort of thing is for me, but I'll consider it.

That's undoubtedly true. I'd rather rely on my own will in any situation than be forced to turn to that.

Have you thought about taking a self-defense course? Not that it would do much good in a zombie apocalypse, but it would work well against human attackers.

I've thought about it. Kuzuki-nii was teaching me a little, before... Well, hopefully it won't come up very often.

That's the idea behind martial arts: you learn it in the hopes that you never have to use it. In the meantime, you gain a sense of discipline (not that you really need help in that area) and a healthy, toned body. It's good exercise for both body and mind.
