I don't understand that, though- being prepared to take a life. How? How does anyone ever prepare for something like that?

Well... For me, it was always I had to be ready to take down whoever was a threat. Everyone on the entire planet was counting on me and my friends, and if we didn't kill them... They'd kill us, and the world itself'd be doomed. I've never enjoyed it, but... Sometimes, that's the only way to stop them, messed up as it is. You can't hesitate.
