[Voice - Locked from Al, Winry, Gracia, and Elicia]

This might seem like a weird question, but I need to ask.

A lot of people - kids, even - act like they're fine with death and killing. The draft taught me that much. And around here dying doesn't even seem to matter because you just come back anyway. Is that what makes it- [Not okay, he can't ( Read more... )

It's not something I'd ever thought about before I ended up in Luceti. Even then, it's something I try not to think about. [A pause and then, hesitantly:] Maybe acting like they're okay with it is some sort of defense mechanism?

Maybe. I don't think that's something I could just fake, though...

I'm not sure I could either, but the mind is capable of a great many things, good or bad.

Humans are pretty incredible. They can overcome plenty of horrible things, if it's necessary for them to continue forward.

So I've heard. [She can't count herself as one who's experienced such things, though. It's a blessing she's come to appreciate.] Death here is still a big deal, I think. I mean, the Malnosso take people sometimes and there's the village-wide stuff that comes occasionally. I'm pretty sure the Malnosso like to get their hands on someone who's died. I mean... crazy scientists get a dead body for a week. No one's going to stop them from doing whatever they please with it.

Wh...

[.....That is a horrible mental image, thank you. DESPERATE DERAIL IS A GO.]

Death is always a big deal, whether it's permanent or not. It's not something you can just shrug off.

[You're so very welcome.]

I think you're right. Maybe I'm just being naive, but...

It's not naive, it's the truth. I've never met anyone who hasn't been affected by death one way or another. Things like that can change lives.

And never for the better.

[A pause. This is touching on things she doesn't want to think about.] I'm Alexis, by the way.

Always good to meet people. Have you been here long?

Sort of. It's been about five months now since I got here, and I usually don't stay in the same place for long, so it feels like it's been a lot longer.

This is my second time here. It kind of feels like forever.

Did you remember the first time? [It's weird to ask, but after being told repeatedly that he's been here and gone like three times already.]

As a matter of fact, yes. I did. Some of it's a little dim, but it's all there. I had no idea I'd bee here while I was at home, though.

Sounds like a common side effect of going back. I wonder if it's intentional? It would make sense for them not to want people to look for a way back, just in case.

[You know, for those who roll that way. Dead people, for example.]
