That's right... the code...

Hey, anybody listening out there- [It goes quiet abruptly as Edward examines the journal to make sure it's working.] ...hm. My name is Edward Elric, and I'm an alchemist. Where I'm from, alchemists follow a certain code: "Alchemists live for the public." It means that our abilities are meant to be used for ordinary ( Read more... )

Alchemist...? What's that? [Question marks everywhere]

[Obviously he should've posted a tutorial with the announcement!]

Alchemy is the understand, deconstruction, and reconstruction of any known material. Basically, turning one thing into another.

[People in Luceti never cease to amaze him. If he had a tail right now it would be wagging a million miles an hour] That's amazing!! And you can do that kind of thing??

[S-so energetic.]

Yeah, that's what an alchemist does.

[More than you know.]

You're so cool! D-Do you think you could show me how you do it sometime?? [Pretty pretty please?]

Sure, if you want. I just said it was for the public, so...

[You count as a customer, apparently. And hey, it's always nice to meet a fan, even if he hasn't made a name for himself here yet.]

Thank you so much!

[His smile stays plastered on his face for a moment but then it fades as he thinks. He had been too distracted by the thought of someone transforming something into something else to really think about his definition of alchemy. Maybe this guy can help]

Hey um...do you really know about all of the known material in the world?

[Whoa, whoa. That's quite the expectation there.]

I know most of them. I can identify anything in the periodic table, but I'm sure there's still a lot about the world that I don't know. Alchemists aren't all-knowing, we're just really educated scientists.

O-Oh, I see. [Seto isn't all too familiar with the periodic table...in fact he doesn't know a lot of scientific stuff. The books his grandfather kept were always full of confusing science things that he never understood.

But anyways! This means that his grandfather and this guy are familiar with the same things so he has to know what it is! Hopefully. Seto's way of thinking] Do you think you could try to help me figure out what something is?

Sure, I can try. [No promises about the results, but this "working for the people" thing is going to take some getting used to.] What do you need?

[There's a small click as Seto opens his locket to pull something out. It's been so long since he last took this out and actually looked at it...it kinda makes him sad. So hesitantly, he puts a blue crystal up to the camera so that image pops up on Ed's end.]

Do you know what this is...?

[Edward squints at the journal for a long moment, trying to get a good enough look at the image on the page. Kind of hard to tell when it's so small, but... hmm.]

I can only make a guess unless I examine it in person, but it looks like blue quartz.

Blue quartz...?

[He stares at it himself, wondering why his grandfather would leave behind something like this...] Do you think I could bring it to you?

Yeah, sure. Bring it over to the library, I'll be there for most of the day.

O-Okay! I'll be there soon!

[Give him about twenty minutes or so]

[Ed's still there, reading away at some science books. Crystal this time, since it's not really his specialty, and he figures he ought to be ready in case the guy does show up.]
