[Now that he's gotten over his own embarrassment somewhat-]

...So that's what an experiment is like, huh.

[Okay, maybe not entirely over it. That was beyond humiliating and he doesn't even want to acknowledge it anymore. Ugh.]Whatever, forget it. I have a question for the people who've lived here longer than me. What kind of escape attempts have ( Read more... )

Have you ever heard of reverse psychology, Ed?

I'm an alchemist. Psychology has nothing to do with it!

Being an alchemist means little to nothing here, not to mention your State Certification. [She means this as more of a 'nobody else will care if it's important' and not an 'it's not important in general.']

But I'll keep a sharp eye out. I know how much it means to you.

It's not about my certification. I'm a wanted fugitive anyway, remember? Even in Amestris, it's just a symbol.

[Even so... it's his. The same sign of his resolve. And since she's the only one who knows what it means, she should at least understand why he wants it back.]

[She knows. But she also knows that will mean nothing to everyone else. That's why she said that. Sigh, but it's not like she'll correct him. They both know she knows the secret of the silver watch.]

I was going to stop by the Item Shop today anyway to pick up some parts for a commission. I'll look for it while I'm there.

...Thanks, Winry.

[He doesn't really like asking for favours, but despite him not particularly liking the military anymore, for all the dirty business going on behind the scenes, the watch has become just as much a part of his life as the automail limbs themselves. It's harder to let it go than he wants to let on, but he still reaches into his pocket sometimes to feel for it, and finding nothing has been... kind of upsetting. In a weird way.]

If I'm the one to find it you can just count it as a thank you for the great weekend.

[Ahaha.]

At least you had fun.

[Not that he didn't... at the time. Now his behaviour is just an embarrassing memory.]

It was a nice change of pace for the time. [She knows he probably doesn't like it now. All that time doing nothing 'productive.']

Yeah, it was alright. But playing around on the beach isn't going to get us out of here.

A break is good sometimes. You can't work with a tired mind.

It's just not something I'm used to. Especially not these days.

[The months - hell, even the entire year - had felt like one frenzied battle after another. And he hasn't exactly had time to enjoy the peaceful life since he and Al left for their journey four years ago.]

I know. I won't ask you to do it again if you don't feel comfortable with it. [If there's anyone she knows who can break out of the barrier it might be Ed, but she can't help remembering how horrible the turtles came back after their attempt...]

I just- [He cuts off there, scribbling away at something, then mutters a faint curse.] How the hell do you lock this thing?

[There's just some stuff you really don't want said publicly.]

[She throws up her best privacy filter for him.]

There. I've gotten pretty good at it, actually.

...Think you could teach me?

[It's not like he puts many private thoughts on the journal, but sometimes a conversation is easier this way. And isn't meant for anyone else.]
