A harvard classics 1909 edition in excellent condition for less than a dollar a book. *Lust*. Assuming this auction goes the way I want it to, I may need another bookcase...

Speaking of which, the master plan for the apartment has been made. Two bookcases on either side of the fireplace, so the one troublesome skinny window is covered. The eyesore hand-me-down, missing-some-key pieces entertainment center goes. So does the T.V. which makes a high pitched whining that drives dogs and certain humans crazy. Small (read; tiny) flatscreen on the mantle over the fireplace. And the acid-trip couch and chairs are replaced with something made after the psychadelic period in furniture. Price; $Alot.00. But if I manage to save as much as I'm planning this year, I'll have money for this and plenty of savings to spare.

Lately I've been thinking about home-buying, mostly since two couples who are close friends have bought houses. For these couples, owning a home looks like a wise decision. But I have to say, though it is definitely in my head over the next few years, it is not a very immediate priority for me. Sure, I've heard people yapping about how if you are renting you are throwing your money away, blah, blah, blah. But is that really true for me, a single person who isn't very settled yet and really doesn't want to deal with maintenance and *gulp* lawn care just yet? Besides, I like my place pretty well. I think my level of happiness would be about the same if I waited a couple of years and built up some larger reserves than if I was able to buy a house tomorrow. And the ins and outs of the economy right now suggest to me that home buying is vastly overrated.
