As a TA, I find students have a tendency to either overestimate or underestimate my authority. One student at the end of class asked me a question I didn't have the answer to and refused to accept "You'll have to talk to the professor about it" as an answer. Another felt he was free to talk about how little work he did on his paper because the professor wasn't in the room. Little did he know that she gave his paper to me to correct.
