And if we don't come back in another life
and the afterlife myths are just church mind control
and heaven and hell are merely ways
of making you behave
and purgatory actually is more like it, but
without all the guides and dimness,
and if all we have to look forward to
is a long dark dirt nap,
is that any worse than my darkest moments here on Earth,
especially the oldest one, when i was seven
and I couldn't sleep because the night
was so heavy and silent and familiar-
like the womb only colder, and colder still,
a cold I no longer cared I could not feel?
