blacks upon blacks

there was a photographer i heard of who was known for his blacks
blacks upon blacks upon black
ebony layers he would stack there in balck
the shadows were his and the shadows were black
filtering through the dark room red light on
fold upon folds of that same rich creation
black upon black upon black upon black

ebony folds were that man's sustenation
shades in the wind who would dance for him
pay them a nickle and watch them sing
moving their bodies so silky and silent
photograph the yet unseen

black upon black they dance in the darkness
the photograph catches all its dark glow
nothign is seen there is nothing but darkness
black upon black as the layers unfold

a picture is there
just waiting to surface
the negative's white like ash from a storm
a fire was burning upon which the yearning for
black upon black and the night as coal

black upon black upon black upon black
look in the eyes and you see the soul
black upon black upon black upon black
look too deep you might lose control
love is a thing you may find hid deeply
black upon black and you see the soul
love is thing you may find in others
but can you yourself open colors so?

what I lack what you lack what we lack where we lack
need upon need upon lost control
want upon want upon yearning passion
hold me too closely and you'll lose control
i didn't come here for angry vengeance
I only came to heal and console
never let go of the dreams of the past
its lack upon lack upon dreams of old
