NOTE: Takes place about three weeks before Tommy starts becoming aware of his abilities.
“You’re aware this is insane, right? Not part of the dare or anything.”
Tommy swallowed hard, then nodded as he toed off his shoes and stripped off his shirt. “Yeah, I know...but you never said I couldn’t up the stakes on my own.”
“Just...are you sure about this?”
Totally unsure, Tommy nodded and tossed his t-shirt aside, hands moving to his belt buckle and working it free. “Yeah. So you got the stuff or what?”
He watched as Jay and Mike shared a look, then reluctantly showed him the bags from Home Depot. “We got it, bro...we just don’t think it’s the smartest thing you’ve ever done.”
“Maybe not...but you two dicks were the ones that dared me to get naked, so get ‘em out.” Tommy insisted testily, hoping to distract from the fact that he was going commando as he slid out of his jeans and cast them aside to lay where his shirt sat.
“Sure thing, just a sec...can we laugh at you first?”
“Assholes.” he growled, folding his arms uncomfortably across his bare chest as he stood, buck naked, on the ledge of the hotel pool in front of God and everybody. It had been a stupid game and an even stupider dare, but he didn’t want to back down...and was just drunk enough to suggest an added bonus that made him just comfortable enough to strip in public and satisfy the dare. “Just lock me up already, will ya?”
The Kellar twins merely glanced at each other, then obediently removed the locks and chains they’d bought and started following Tommy’s instructions. Within two minutes, they had him securely chained, hand and foot, naked as the day he was born.
Just like Houdini...and only then did he feel comfortable, as easy as if he were still wearing clothes.
“Have you ever done something like this, Tom Tom?”
“It’s been a while...” her replied evasively to Mike’s question as the other man finished locking up his feet. Yeah, a while...never was a while, right?
Truth was, Tommy had no idea what he was doing. All he knew was how Houdini used to do it, all he had was way too much time and a somewhat unhealthy obsession with a dead man.
Still, as he shuffled backwards, then hopped backwards over the edge and into the deep end of the pool, his keen eye and attention to detail were his saving grace as he found the right slack in the right places and twisted his way free of the chains.
As he swam to the surface, breathless and triumphant two and a half minutes later, it was Jay Kellar that noticed the chains at the bottom of the pool, and the free-floating padlocks scattered around them...six total, each of them unlocked and open as if Tommy had a key stashed right in his nonexistent pocket...
