The great thing in this world is not so much where you stand, as in what direction you are moving.

"The great thing in this world is not so much where you stand is in what direction you are moving." - Oliver Wendell Holmes

In the 6th grade, Chase's math teacher had told her she was meant for great things.  She'd regarded the comment as plain, and frankly not meaning much because her father had told her the world was her oyster, too.  But as she looked back on it years later, she began to ponder the truth in the comment.

At 11 years old, she stood on the brink of new oppurtunities (or so she had thought.  Sixth grade, people!  That was big), and could have gone any which way.  She could have been a stripper and not gone to college.  She could have married her high school sweetheart Chris, or she could have gone to school and become a lawyer.

Instead, she moved towards hunting.  Which ultimately meant her life sucked, but she was forever moving towards the next good deed.  Who was in trouble now?  What could she do about it?  It was these thoughts that set her apart from the everyday, and while she rarely got more than a hug in thanks, it was enough.  Enough to make her agree with her math teacher because while she often thought of herself as bad at the job and all the coulda, shoulda, woulda's, it still all boiled down to her doing things people would never dream of.

Or, great things.
