Hi guys. So I'm updating today because of an article in the NY Times I just finished reading that really got me wondering how stupid people are. The article is called Why Exercise Won't Make You Thin. I strongly encourage you to read it here: http://www. ( Read more... )

I haven't read the article yet, but I probably will. I like the idea of classes too, but I think Retro is cheaper than most of the other places, plus I don't want to quit & have to pay the enrollment fee for a new gym. They have signs all over retro about how too much cardio can make you gain weight instead of lose it. Not sure how, but I guess they would know. Obviously that's not what this guy is saying, but that could contribute to his wife's problem too. People are lazy, myself included, which is why I've been going to the gym for more than a year and still weigh pretty much the same as I did when I started. Granted I've fluctuated in the time and I haven't gone consistently since May or June, but still.

If you join Retro, the three of us could go together. I like to go to the gym with other people because it makes it feel like less of a chore, and then you kind of force each other to go. I used to go with Jacky Pepe all the time after work, but now we're on different school schedules and I think that's part of the reason why I don't go as often anymore. Workout buddies are truly helpful.

Don't be intimidated by the gym. I used to be able to go in and out unnoticed, and it was nice. Just don't let anyone sucker you into personal training because then you have to talk to people every single time you go, and they actually notice when you haven't been to the gym in months and months and make you feel guilty about it, lol. Good luck with Gold's. I wonder if you could sign up just to take a class and not use the whole gym, because then I might be willing to do a class with you, depending on the price of course. But probably you can't do that.

I went to Gold's today to find out. There is no enrollment fee. I was excited about that. I think it might be a September special. They have all types of classes from this dance Zumba class to spin, yoga, pilates, interval training and boot camp. My sister used to go and said the classes are pretty good. They have a free 7 day pass this month too. So you could go for a week and check out the classes for free if you wanted.

Personal trainers are a little expensive, that's why I like the idea of being able to do group training in classes. We'll see. I am thinking about starting the free trial this week to see how it is.
