BACKGROUND: Yuna was born to the city of Bevelle but brought up on the island of Besaid. She is the daughter of Lord Braska, who was the last high summoner of Spira, who brought the calm to the people. She is half human and half Albhed on her mother's side, and thus has heterochromatic irises, one blue and one green.
At the age of seventeen, Yuna followed in the footsteps of her late father (who, to bring the calm, had to sacrafice himself) and became a summoner to defeat Sin once again, in the hopes of bringing the eternal calm. Aided by her aeons, Yuna set out on her journey across Spira with her guardians, Kimahri, Wakka, and Lulu. As soon as Tidus arrived in Spira, Yuna also took him on as her fourth guardian. Auron, who also was a guardian to her father, later joined her, and Yuna's own cousin Rikku also joined her cause (after originally trying to stop her).
At the start of her journey, Yuna was fixated on her faith to Yevon, and was very reserved, quiet, and serious, along with being soft-spoken. However, as she learns more and more throughout her pilgramige, her hold to her faith is put the test, until it eventually shatters when she finds that the Church of Yevon violate their own teachings and refuse to let her send Seymour to the Farplane. She decided to go against the traditional way of getting rid of Sin, and breaks the cycle in doing so. By this act, and with the help of her guardians, Yuna manages to defeat Sin for one last time and bring the eternal calm. But not without a loss- she looses Tidus, even as she tells him she loves him. Throughout her journey, she began to think more about herself, which led to her knowing that she loved Tidus and the thought of being without him scared her. However, since he was connected to the fayth, she understood he had to be lost.
That at first, didn't deter her, as she whistled to him in vain hope that he'd respond. He didn't, and Yuna spoke to the people of Spira, telling them to remember all the ones that had been lost to Sin, and never forget them. Yuna then returns to her former life in Besaid for two years, until she approached by Rikku with a curious sphere.
This sphere sparks off her interest- whoever it is, it looks like and certainly resembles Tidus. Feeling fueled by the hope of finding him again, she leaves the islands with Rikku, gets a total makeover, and joins the Gullwings, consisting of Yuna, Rikku, Paine, Shinra, Rikku's brother Brother, and his friend Buddy, a group of sphere hunters.
Yuna's main reason for joining the Gullwings was, ultimately, to find Tidus once again. As she investigates she uncovers the plots and ploys behind the factions of post-Sin Spira, particularly New Yevon and the Youth League. Because of finding out about this, her goal also becomes to find some sense of unity and peace to Spira, and stop those from wanting to damage Spira further. She succeeds, as she, Rikku and Paine manage to beat Vegnagun. After finishing her own adventure, she reunits with Tidus- a gift to her from the Fayth for saving Spira once again from a dangerous force.
At nineteen years and after her summoning days were over, Yuna is more of a free-spirit without restrictions - she appears as being more open and direct, and thinks about herself more so than before. She remains kindhearted and selfless in some respects, and she can never turn her back on a request, no matter what it is. She seems to be generally optimistic and remains to still hold most of her problems to herself, though they are usually wittled out of her by her close friends.
Being an ex-summoner, Yuna was particularly intune with the magical side of things, but now all of those powers are nullified. During the course of X-2, she adopted using two hand-held guns, and also learnt to use swords and other such weapons- thus, she can fight if she needs to.
