[It had taken Tus some time after waking up to actually notice the journal and pick it up. Possibly because he was not only wondering how he came to be in this place, but how he came to be anywhere at all. He was reasonably sure he remembered dying ( Read more... )

[Now, Tus, don't be that way; she was a perfectly lovely gryphon once you got to know her. She falls still in a manner left only to large felines and birds of prey as he draws his blade and changes his stance into a defensive one.

Tus, have you ever had a gryphon side-eye you? Well, you're experiencing it now at full force. Zhaneel actually sighs and shakes her head, wings rustling a bit along her back. So many worlds these people came from, and not a single person that recognized her as an intelligent creature not prone to instant mauling. She rests her weight and leans back, actually holding up her forefeet in a very human 'dude, I mean you no harm' pose.]

I mean you no harm, although it is clear that you do not understand me.

[She moves a single forefoot to her neck satchel, then, moving slowly so as not to startle him. She pulls out .. a book; her journal, in fact. She shows it to him ..]

Do you have one?

[He might not understand her words, but the tone was clearly a question and she looks from him to the journal and back again. She doesn't like to strain herself with mindspeak, but she'll go that route next if need be.]

[Give Tus a break, he's had a fairly trying last couple of hours. Including before he ever arrived here.

When her mannerisms seem very - human, and she's clearly attempting to convey that she doesn't intend to hurt him, Tus hesitates further. His sword drops, the tip pointing towards the ground, though he doesn't put it away.

And she pulls out a book. A creature with a book? A book that looks almost exactly like his.

Ah. He understands her meaning, and pulls out his own book.]

[Okay, she'll give you that, Tus. This shit was more than a little overwhelming when you first fell into it.

He finally lowers his blade and she exhales slowly, glad the threat of imminent attack has at least lessened. Then henpulls out his own journal and things are suddenly and blessedly easier in an instant. She bobs her head in ascent, opening her own to a blank page before gesturing for him to do the same. If he doesn't understand she will move to open it for him, but really does prefer her blood unshed.

Like others she is aware that any posts done this way will be visible to others, but it is what it is. She begins speaking again, but this time her words appear in Persian on his own page.]

I apologize for alarming you, as it was certainly not my intention .. My name is Zhaneel. Have you just arrived to the Keep?

[Fortunately, he does indeed open his book. He stares down at it in confusion, and then startled comprehension when words that he understands begin to appear.]

It seems this book can do a great many things.

[Speak at him, write at him, and now translate for him. It is definitely a fortunate thing that the power of the dagger was recently proven to him; otherwise he would have had a much more difficult time accepting such magic as this.]

Zhaneel? I fear I owe you an apology as well, for over-reacting to a simple greeting.

[Zhaneel chortles softly at his reply, bobbing her head in agreement.]

It truly can .. make certain to keep it with you at all times.

[Then it's the gryphon's turn to look a bit startled, head tilting slightly as Tus apologizes to her. She finally shakes her beak once in negation, facial feathers rising and flattening briefly.]

Nay .. your reaction was hardly out of place considering the circumstances, but I shall accept it if makes you rest easier.

[She fluffs her feathers against the cold, studying him curiously.]

Have you a name then, sword bearer?

I will indeed, as it seems to be the only effective method of conversing in this place.

[Her head shake brings a small frown to his lips, but it fades when she ultimately accepts the apology.]

Then I think you for your accepting, for I would never wish to raise my sword to one who meant no harm.

[He smiles slightly.]

It seems I have once more been remiss. I am Prince Tus.
