Oh, how can you do that? I feel like being sucked into the land, being with Heph, really seeing him there. Awesome.

And this just pulls my string: that no matter how good friends, two people cannot share absolutely everything

Oh, and btw.

"Well, I'm back."

Thanks so much.
Sooo glad to see that you're back in full force. No more of those stunts ok? You're getting your friends worried.
I guess you could always ask LJ as the owner of the community to give you the IP address of the person who deleted than entry, but it would be too time-consuming maybe

What can I say? This chapter is even more heartbreaking than the last - but I still think its so much better than letting things resolve themselves more simply. Alexander is too stubborn for his own good, and I think he knows it, but the debate between him and Aristotle was just created wonderful sparks - such a sharp dialogue with nothing wasted. I love the way Alexander is struggling with his own pride against his love for Hephaestion. And the scenes of Hephaestion, tired and lonely and heartbroken - just perfect. I don't think he's right to blame himself for what has happened, as no time would probably have been a good time to tell Alexander and as he observes, he tried to protect everyone involved. So who is the person he is writing to, if not Alexander? And why is he going to Pella? Is a confrontation with Philip on the cards ( ... )

Sometimes I wonder if I'm not complicating things, especially in light of what is coming. This started as an intended 3-part fic and it's gotten a bit out of control. But why not torture the characters a bit, as long as people like it. I'm very happy that you continue to like this. My beta takes a lot of credit for polishing the dialogue.

The setting of Hephaestion's journey homeward was done so well, very vivid and beautiful, and really reflecting the conflict and loneliness he faces. Also I love how you contrasted their situations here: Alexander may be unable to talk to his father as just a son, due to their positions, but he has Aristotle as a father-figure and counselor, all the more needed now since he and his best friend are parted (as the other boys observed - I liked that little detail too!) and Aristotle is able to offer insight and some advice to him. Unlike Hephaestion, whom Aristotle was unable to help, and whose own father is dead... He has the scrolls, but really he is acting quite independently, and I love how you describe the depth of his isolation and how bitterly he blames himself (the part where he thinks that he's failed his father, and then calls up to the "uncaring, cold stars" was written so wonderfully!) yet show, through his actions, that he's not one to accept things passively; he's resilient and strong and he's going to do something about ( ... )

This transition chapter gave me a lot of trouble, because it was necessary and yet had to be enjoyed. I'm glad that you did and very grateful for the meaningful feedback. It's a pleasure to know that people like you read and understand these stories exactly as they were intended. Thank you!

Hello hela

Hephaestion is very determined in this matter. Alexander is likewise only stobborn 'there's nothign more to be said.'

I loved the scene in Amyntor's study. The young man taking his natural place behind the desk.

Also, Alexander's conversation with Artistotle was wise and as always - not the answers that pleases the prince. It is not easy to try figure out what to do.

Good update

Love

Myr

So glad you liked the scene in Amyntor's study. Hephaistion's got a plan but he's very uncertain as to what will come of it. Thanks for reading and commenting:)
