"She'll carelessly cut you, then laugh while you're bleedin'..."

So, vacation was wonderful. It was a welcome bit of respite from constantly working/dealing with the fam/hanging out with people/trying to keep in touch with everyone else. My parents were toying with the idea of buying a beach house on the island, which I wish they would do; there's something so peaceful and simple and serene about waking up every morning, sitting on your balcony and having your coffee to the sounds of the surf, the smell of the ocean, and the feel of a sea breeze. It was also nice to get some time with the fam when we were all chill and no one was stressed out or running around like a chicken with their head cut off.

The first day back from the beach, I had to work, which I was dreading. Except that Tina and Patrick made plans to get everybody from work to go bowling later that night after the lunch shift. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go, but Patrick kept bugging me, so I caved. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. There were 8 of us from the Inn, we split at least 20 pitchers amongst us and bowled like 5 games. And took about 100 pictures! I hadn't bowled since maybe 7th grade, but I had a blast. Some of it was the company, some of it was the booze, and most of it was because Patrick kept hitting on me.

When I first met this kid, my first impression was that he's one of those attractive guys who KNOWS he's attractive (and, therefore, is a defacto asshole), and who said/did stupid things just to get attention. However, he's still pretty attractive, so I enjoyed his attention for what it was worth.

Then, Monday night, I texted him to see if he wanted to get together and do something, because I had gone home with his sunglasses still on my head after bowling most of a game with his hat and glasses on. We met up with another waitress, Sarah, who goes to VCU and who went bowling with us, and went to this kid Andrew's house in Springfield for a wine party. Patrick's 4 best friends (Andrew, Louie, Mikey and P's younger brother, Nathan) were there... I promptly fell in love with all of them. They are older, more mature, and incredibly more attractive versions of the group of guys I hung out with senior year, and the ones I hang out with now at school.

We drank some wine (Andrew's a wine buyer for Whole Foods, so I learned more about what we were drinking than I ever cared to know) and played beer pong, and it was genuinely a good time. Nobody was out to get trashed, nobody was trying to act cool or important, we were all just hanging out and having a good time and getting to know each other. Patrick picked me to play w/him in beer pong (they split up sarah and i because we both suck), and he would keep poking me, or shoving me, or pretending like I was in his way, etc. It was fun, especially as we won.

Later, we walked down to the lake. Patrick and Mikey were talking about Zen Buddhism and how they like the idea of appreciating the simple things and being in touch with nature. It was an incredibly hot conversation, just because they both showed themselves to be very intelligent and well-informed. We sat on these giant rocks and drank riesling out of the bottle, and Patrick and I talked about marriage and love and all this stuff. He took my hand and helped me over the rocks and up the hill when it was time to go. On our way back, he gave me a flower he had picked that he and Mikey used as an example to me of something simply beautiful. I drove home and dropped everyone off and managed not to kill anyone.

It was a great night. I've totally got a thing for Patrick, but I've come to realize that you have to approach these things knowing that not every experience is going to play out. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it to, but the end of the summer is not the time for either of us to be starting anything. I'd just like to have some fun, yano? And when I'm with him, I definitely do.
