This is my attempt at at political free speech. This is my attempt to offer my two cents on the current election. So, sit back and read (if you want).
Everyone who knows me understands who I am and what I stand for - - but by chance, if there is anyone out there who doesn't, here is a little summary of my thoughts. I was raised by two former hippies. My mother is a high school government teacher. I get most of my opinions and facts from her. She is pretty vocal about what she believes in - - except when she is teaching. Believe it or not, she remains neutral and unbiased in the classroom. Overall, my background makes me a liberal - a radical - a democrat. I am proud of it.
Now, I am not here to give you my opinions about Kerry or Bush. I am not here to dictate my own personal opinions (I might save that for another entry). What I am here to tell you is this...
BE INFORMED. UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS ELECTION IS ALL ABOUT. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, V-O-T-E! I hear so many people say they don't know where they fall on the political spectrum - and that is all fine and well. But then, do something about it! With today's technology, there are so many resources out there to get informed and understand where you fall in the world of politics. For example, two websites which I am particularly fond of are - -
1) www.politicalcompass.org
2) madrabbit.net/webrabbit/quizshow.html
Now, if you don't think your vote counts OR if you think that it doesn't matter because it doesn't directly involve you, YOU ARE WRONG. Voting is a privilege. This is OUR country. The next website is a list of the top ten reason WHY you should vote - -
1) www.justvote.org/vote_2004_election_issues.html
Finally, just get out there and do it - VOTE. I cannot possibly explain to you the importance if this election. No matter who you like or dislike, whether we want to admit it or not, this is the most critical election of our lifetime (even our parents' lifetime). This country is going to go one way or the other. Don't you want to be a part of that? It's an important responsibility. So, just vote.
Another thing -- the first presidential debate is Thursday, September 30. Check your local listings and watch.
There, I said it. Questions? Ask me. I promise to try and remain as neutral as possible on this issue - - if you want me to be biased, I will. I am perfectly willing to give my opinions. You may read them here soon. It's getting close to the big day -- November 2nd -- and I am getting heated.
Later, alligators...
