We have a promotion on at the store where if you buy three cards, you can buy a singing duck for 50% off. We include 0.99$ cards and can make exceptions ie: if someone is buying a lot of stuff, they can get the promotion. This woman comes in and wants three cards (3-4$ each) and 2 ducks. I tell my girl go for it, no problem.
Next thing I know, this stupid woman is wandering around the store demanding to know where the 0.99$ cards are. She took 15 minutes to pick out inexpensive cards, dragging my SA behind her, so she could get the deal, yelling back to her mother that she wasn't going to pay more than she had to for cheap toys.
First off, you are already getting a special deal and saving 15$, really 30$ for 2 ducks. Be grateful. Second, you had cards all picked out, which you stuffed back on the shelf wherever you felt like it. At least give them to the sales associate you are tying up and not letting serve other customers. Third, was it really necessary to yell about how you are getting a special deal all over the store? Never mind calling my toys cheap. If they are so cheap, you should stop whining about the special price you are getting.
Plus, she made my SA feel bad for giving her the deal because at check out she scrutinized the bill and demanded further discounts. I finally had to go up there and tell her that no, she was not getting a bigger discount. She pretty much stomped her foot and said if she didn't get a bigger discount she wanted her money back. I said no problem and asked for her receipt so I could return everything. As soon as she saw that I wasn't going to give in, she changed her mind and took off.
Customers like that make me hate retail.
On the other hand, I did get to make a lady's day - I had a toy set aside for the kid I live with. She really wanted one so I gave it to her. She was thrilled and hopefully she will tell everyone how great we are - business is beyond slow.
