Alright guys. Here it is. Firstly, the (very nearly) end of the Laser discs...
On Golden Pond
(directed by Mark Rydell 1981, Laser disc)
Uh....Henry Fonda and Kathrine Hepburn spend a summer on a big lake (way to big to be a pond) whilst caring for a young boy that gets dumped in their collective lap by their mostly absent daughter (a rather one dimensional Jane Fonda).......uh......they reminded me of my grandparents........it was ok....
Blades
(directed by Thomas R. Rondinella 1989, Laser Disc)
Golf course horror comedy put out by Troma.....i bough this 90% because i really wanted a Troma LASER DISC and 10% for the golf horror angle.......i'm glad i was counting on being satisfied by Lloyd Kaufman.....
Enter the Dragon
(directed by Robert Clouse 1973, Laser Disc)
I know, this is a classic and i should've watched it years ago, sorry. Does it help that i've always WANTED to see it since i saw Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story in the theater with my brother way back in 1993? Lalo Schifrin score.....afro kung fu......oh, and Bruce, what more could you want?
Secondly, tv on dvd...
The Gilmore Girls
(season 2: 22 episodes @ 45 minutes each, 2001, created by Amy Sherman)
Awh! see, look how cute that screen cap is! Thanks to my little sis for letting me borrow this (and season three which i am nearly done with as well).
Thirdly, a couple of odds and ends...
Reel Talent
a host of short, student or otherwise first type films by George Lucas, Robert Zemeckis, Shawn Levy, Stephen Sommers, Jon Turteltaub, etc, etc
Schramm
(directed by Jorg Buttgereit 1993, DVD)
Thanks to Cheney for giving me this as gas money! A really good, really REALLY brutal and pretty short film about the accidental death of a (real life?) serial killer. Very good, very graphic.
Fourth, movies on demand, or Trugg in the age of the world wide information super highway....
Papillon
(directed by Franklin J. "Planet of the Apes" Schaffner 1973, DVDR)
A pretty good hold over from the Steve McQueen obsession. Oh, Dustin Hoffman is also very amazing in this. Real life story of escape from the French penal islands.....or something....
Control
(directed by Anton Corbijn 2007, DivX)
Beautifully and lovingly made biopic about Ian and Debbie Curtis, based on her book. If you don't know who these people are, i'm not sure how you're even aware of me....VERY good movie, shot in a SUPER wide aspect ratio.......a very good complement to Winterbottom's 24 Hour Party People....this movie reminded me that Natalie is my age and has her father's eyes, and is single as far as i can tell.....who wants to spring for a ticket to fly me to Manchester?
Joy Division
(directed by Grant Gee 2007, DivX)
Documentary about the amazing and important band of the same name, whom i can not get enough of....see above.
Angels of the Universe
(directed by Fridrik Por Fridriksson 2000, DivX)
Utterly AMAZING Icelandic film about a guy that has Schizophrenia, the subject matter is handled somewhat realistically. A total gem of a movie! of all 6 Icelandic films i have now seen, this is my favorite....however the Icelanders seem to make a pretty solid film......very good, very funny in spots, not in other spots, beautiful to watch and listen to......it took me about 7 YEARS to track this movie down! yea me!
Fifth, by request....
John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China
(directed by.....you guessed it! 1986, VHS)
You guys got me on a technicality. This movie is totally ahead of it's time actually.....which at the same time being horrendously dated. I much prefer Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken to Jack Burton, but whatever...this is pretty much like Fletch wandered into a Shaw Brothers movie.....moving along.......
THE MAIN EVENT:
Premutos: Lord of the Living / Premutos - Der gefallene Engel
(directed by Olaf Ittenbach 1997, DivX)
Hands down the best worst Zombie movie i have ever seen. AMAZING stuff really. A big thank you to D. H. for harping on me for 2 or 3 years to see this thing! Body count of 139, way above normal for zombie flicks, i actually got bored of seeing heads explode! this German made mess is so good! i highly recommend it!
Ok, thanks for reading, you're on your own now.
