Next Art Project - "The Violin"

I started a new painting this afternoon entitled simply "The Violin". It is a gift for my Dad, who is a luthier (makes acoustic instruments, mostly violins) for Father's Day. I'm using acrylic board so that I will be able to easily find a standard frame to fit it. I am hoping he will hang it on his workshop wall when he gets it all built!

So far I've got the background completed. I've never painted woodgrain before, I am sure it will be quite the challenge!
